...I mean is there any reason too...? Haven't Sony themselves not said there won't be a vita successor or something, or that they're done with handhelds?

If you ever think a company has said that they won't do something that is normally within their field, they probably didn't.
They generally don't close doors or burn bridges by saying something so absolute.
What you're refering to is probably when Shuhei Yoshida said that "the dedicated handheld market does not appear to be healthy right now" when answering an audience question about the possibility of a Vita 2.

Maybe, I wasn't really sure when saying it. I just thought I remembered something like that. It might of been me thinking the reason was due to smartphones and I don't see smartphones going away, like almost ever.

I don't even know if they should make one.

If Switch is proving something, is that mobile tech is powerful enough to offer a gaming experience comparable to that of consoles, but at lower resolutions. If Sony made a PS4P, they could find themselves competing against their own PS4, specially in Japan.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Sony is a red ocean company so never say never with them

Could you at least put a "Yes" option in your poll?

I don't think it'll happen very soon, but I would like it to be so.

I'd really like a portable version of PS4 that runs digital-only content. We could call it the PS4 Go.

I'm not sure it's a necessary or even profitable idea. Switch will inherit the Vita's bread and butter: Japanese AA and indie support. AAA third parties will continue to prioritize PC, and PC analogs like PS4 and XOne. And Sony 's design philosophy is clearly all about big-budget titles that are either cinematic adventures or open-world action games -- not exactly a good fit for a tiny portable screen.

Wouldn't a Vita 2 suffer the same fate as Vita 1, only worse?

I don't think so. Ps4 is selling really well, and vita didn't sell, not even to the core PS users.

I have faith that Sony is in the business of growing their platform, expanding their userbase, and increasing their profits. So I fully expect a Wifi only PS4 Portable, and a 4G or 5G PS4 Phone around 2019 or 2020.

Sony will be supporting the PS4 for a very, very long time. We have reached the point of massively diminishing returns, to the point where PS4 will be perfectly capable of playing PS5 games at lower resolutions/frame rates, and therefore we will see many PS4/PS4P/PS5 titles, from Sony and 3rd parties.

As they just said at the TGS conference, with a picture of a guy holding a Phone, "We are only half way in our jouney, we want all the games to come to PlayStation, .... We want to make PlayStation as everybodys play station,... our target is to place one PlayStation to one home,.... we want to make games as another culture."

I believe they are fully commited to making PlayStation into an industry leader. I would not be shaocked to see a PS4 Digital Only revision to compete with Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku. It is not far fetched to think they will go after the portable space again with a PS4 Portable and PS4 Phone, especially as they are a Japanese company where portable is the dominate form factor. Sony wants PlayStation to be the #1 consumer electronics brand in the world, and they will have to expand to multiple form factors to achieve that goal.

I dont see handhelds continuing the way they are now. Mainly hardware design is the issue.
