I just rent the movies I want at my local Redbox or video store (yup, still have one) or buy them. TV shows? I have *gasp* TV with 220 channels, a DVR and an app on my phone that let's me stream live TV and all my recorded shows wherever I go. People talk like Netflix is still light years ahead but for me, it's archaic and pointless. |
I find Netflix a lot more user friendly then my dvr with its 200 channels. Anything interesting I add to my list, since Netfix knows my preferences by now they occasionally send an email with stuff I like. Since it autoskips the trailer and end credits with instant resume I don't even really notice where episodes start or end anymore. I simply quit watching wherever and continue the next day. Netflix made watching series as easy as earmarking a book. Plus you never have to worry some retard presidential address or sports nonsense screws up your recording!
With the dvr I either have to wait a week for the next episode or store it up for months. Should I watch the Orville now or wait until I can watch an episode each night which I prefer. You also have to ffwd through commercials, make sure to delete the right thing and it costs 10x as much as Netflix... Yet we'll keep cable around for live and up to date stuff, reality tv (wife loves it) and cartoon channels which our kids leave on in the background for hours (not good with monthly data caps when using Netflix)
Our cable provider also has plenty on demand stuff you can binge watch, but the interface is horribly slow and they lock out vcr controls to force you to watch the commercials. They had Game of Thrones available for a while, I couldn't even make it through the first episode, commercials ugh. Sometimes some of the channels do a marathon which is very useful. I watched Fargo 1 and 2 and Breaking bad that way, record the whole series in 24h, cable still worth something.
