Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumour: Netflix is ready for the Switch

A rumour is currently circulating the internet at the moment stating that Netflix has been uploaded onto the Switch and is ready for release. Netflix is awaiting Nintendo to make the final steps in bringing Netflix to the eShop so Switch users can access the Netflix app.

The fact that Netflix is available on numerous platforms - even the Wii U - it would seem that a release for the Switch is long overdue.

It is kind of crazy that we still do not have Netflix. I am guessing Nintendo just wanted to focus on games. I think I also heard Netflix could have it done at launch but didn't for some reason.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

It is quite bizzare that the Switch doesn't have Netflix. I understand that Nintendo wanted to emphasise that the Switch is a dedicated gaming platform, however, having other functions couldn't hurt. If anything, having appls like Netflix would add more value to the Switch. The fact that you can watch Netflix offline now makes the Switch the perfect platform for Netflix, as you will be able to watch Netflix movies/TV on the go without internet access.

The switch OS was clearly rushed and Netflix is just one of those things that got cut in the deadline.
I never had any doubt it was coming though.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

All I want is Netflix and YouTube, I don't even think I'd even need a web browser on a console.

Imagine watching it on TV then taking it on the go!

Good for those who like the service.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I don't see why this is necessary.

If I'm at home, Netflix (and all other streaming) is far better to be done via Fire Stick/TV/AppleTV/Roku/ActualTV, etc.

If I'm not at home, it would then be easier to use phone (has data or wifi) than be limited to wifi only or also using phone battery by having it open up data to Switch.

Switch needs to remain a pristine game console. The simplicity and ability to excel in that one field is a big win for the console IMO. Hell, if they add apps, then all that means is they need to drop the phone companion app and put that ish on the console too.

I agree. Having a browser on any gaming console is a novelty that doesn't serve much purpose. Whereas having Netflix and YouTube is definitely a function that would get a lot of use.

On one hand, the idea of new features on the Switch excited me. On the other hand, I have so many other devices that do the job already. My phone and tablet even have 4G built in.

I'd be more excited about Switch exclusive content like a version of Miiverse or some customization options. Maybe a WiiU caliber web browser.
