Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Be Honest: Why Do You Think Switch is a Sales Success Right Now?

The concept on a high(er) end portable than the 3ds that will have must play games that were until now limited by older hardware. Also the games that came out are many (something the wiiu lacked) and compared to wiiu is more affordable/has more value with that same money because it's also a hybrid console. And JAPAN

Artificial demand due to artificial supply to create artificial sales sold at artificial stores to artificial customers to push an artificial narrative of an artificial success.

Or maybe the ability to transition between console and handheld so easily is pretty sweet.

I have a had a couple of back and forth conversations with various people across a few different video gaming sites and youtube pages about why Switch is a sales success. I have heard a lot of different reasons and it seems that after the latest Nintendo Direct, the newest reason being thrown around is because third party support is picking up.

I even saw a video that claimed we should take Switch seriously NOW since that last Direct had DOOM and Wolfenstein 2. I mean, did that first 5+ million in five months mean nothiing? Did everyone decide to sleep on Switch being successful long before either of these games were mentioned? At any rate, I want to know why you think Switch is selling so well. I decided not to include a poll because I did not want to accidentially influence anyone's decision; even accidental.

I would like to keep this conversation civil if possible but I am not a liar and must admit healthy debate is both fun to read and very progressive. I would prefer you give the biggest reason for Switch success and then, if you would like, the smaller reasons that way I can best understand everyone's perspective. Annnddddd GO!

Not sure if you're talking about reviewtechusa's video, where he mentions that more developers should take the Switch seriously by releasing more games on it. But yeah, Nintendo's good marketing is to thank for the Switch becoming a hit outside their main fanbase, plus strong 1st party support.

I do not remember who's video it was but it was about both developers and consumers. It may have been the video you are talking about. I will look into it because I want to watch it again anyway.

I think it is a Nintendo handheld that finally has a big screen and is powerful enough to play almost new AAA games.

It is near the end of the end....

I think the form is a large reason for the success. You have to remember every kid has a tablet that costs 300 or more these days so parents won't worry about the price too much.

Once they go on one trip with it and all the kids are whining for a turn the lazy parents of today will quickly capitulate and bg one for each kid. I see that happening summer 2018 .

I mean, there are a lot of variables at play here ... It's hard to even know which demographics the Switch is most successful with, which would be the first logical step to then identify what features of the console are appealing to them enough that -those- people go ahead with a purchase. In short, we have too many variables and not enough data to really tell this, it's all speculation and gut feeling based on extrapolating from that limited data.

Is that not part of the reason that it's successful? Because it appeals to a wide variety of demographics, rather than appealing heavily to only a small demographic (a la Wii U).

Yeah, but I feel that the way the OP is worded, the question is more seeking to identify which choices Nintendo has made, which has resulted in this success =p unless I skipped over another part by accident!

The same reason the Wii was successful: An eye-catching gimmick. However, unlike the Wii's motion control, the ability to easily switch between handheld and home console with the same library and saves is something that's much more useful in the long term. This is the first time in a while that I've seen a console that has a real advantage over even my desktop.

I've been saying it for years: Making a PS4/Xbox One clone would be a bad idea. Nintendo needed to differentiate itself with more than just exclusives, because the Gamecube and Wii U just couldn't do it.

Balls, my bad wrong thread

It is a success because Rol predicted it'd be a success. I should never have doubted Rol.

not until Pokemon Switch release
