Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Be Honest: Why Do You Think Switch is a Sales Success Right Now?

I have a had a couple of back and forth conversations with various people across a few different video gaming sites and youtube pages about why Switch is a sales success. I have heard a lot of different reasons and it seems that after the latest Nintendo Direct, the newest reason being thrown around is because third party support is picking up.

I even saw a video that claimed we should take Switch seriously NOW since that last Direct had DOOM and Wolfenstein 2. I mean, did that first 5+ million in five months mean nothiing? Did everyone decide to sleep on Switch being successful long before either of these games were mentioned? At any rate, I want to know why you think Switch is selling so well. I decided not to include a poll because I did not want to accidentially influence anyone's decision; even accidental.

I would like to keep this conversation civil if possible but I am not a liar and must admit healthy debate is both fun to read and very progressive. I would prefer you give the biggest reason for Switch success and then, if you would like, the smaller reasons that way I can best understand everyone's perspective. Annnddddd GO!

Obviously. There's literally 0 other possible reasons

It's almost as pointless as asking "Why did the PS4 sell 8 million units in September 2017?"

I mean ... literally only need a five letter word to answer that. C'mon guys.

And Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

The system has no games. Zelda is the only reason it is selling at all. Otherwise they would ship negative units again.

In all honestly some people are kinda slow to embrace the idea right now. Some people still think it will only do semi 3DS numbers. However the Switch being a success idea will be like a virus. It will spread to everyone until there is no one left.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Zelda. Oh and Zelda. Wait did I say Zelda? Yeah Zelda.

No really, it is a handheld with Zelda.
I think I forgot something. Did I mention Zelda already?

Not in Japan.

Even then, we all know 1-2  Switch is the real reason why the Switch is currently a hot item.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

yup. its certainly not because it's a great console, with a great concept behind it.
It also has nothing to do with the fact that it launched with one of the best games of all time and got three juggernaut franchises with Zelda, MK8 and Splatoon 2 within it's first four months. :P

I mean, the biggest reason is because the hardware is a good idea conceptually. It's a gaming laptop in console form.

I feel like the sales will taper off after a while.

I mean, there are a lot of variables at play here ... It's hard to even know which demographics the Switch is most successful with, which would be the first logical step to then identify what features of the console are appealing to them enough that -those- people go ahead with a purchase. In short, we have too many variables and not enough data to really tell this, it's all speculation and gut feeling based on extrapolating from that limited data.

For me though, it's probably this ^^^^^ :)
