Forums - General Discussion - I am so tired of being tired.

I'm exhausted. I work 2pm-10pm two days a week, and then have to work 6am-2pm two other days a week. In order to get to work on time I have to rike a bike for 40 minutes. This means I have to get up at 4:40am two days a week, but can't go to sleep until 10:40pm when I get off work. Six hours of sleep is not enough. I've been getting in shape going to the gym, and making a lot of progress these past six months, but my gains are being killed by my work schedule. Every monday I have to struggle to get up at 7am because my body is thrown for such a loop by my wonky work schedule, that I just want to sleep in all day. If I don't get up at 7, I wind up sleeping half the day away. I have a portfolio to work on, and I need to keep my skills up to date. I have a game backlog that grows every month. I only work 4 days a week, but between my commute, portfolio work, and exercise I wind up putting in 56 hours a week.

Change that work schedule.

My mother had a few 12 hour days+10 hour days 6 days a week, and a part time job for 15 hours. Overall 80+ hours without commute and going to the gym 3 times a week. She had to cut her part time job from the equation.

Work out at home so there's less traveling in your schedule. I work out at home every day.

Obvious question but... why don't you get a different job?

Or move closer to your current job to at least cut down the travel time.

My job is easy and pays decently the only downside are the hours. I'm stuck in a lease with my current roommates. You need to make 2.5 times the rent to be able to rent an apartment in my city. Rent has gone up 20% in the past five years here. The city charges an individual rental tax to renters to boot. So if you don't have roommates or if you don't make 25,000 - 30,000 a year you are pretty much living paycheck to paycheck, even with a studio apartment. I have a couple hundred in student loans every month.

But yeah, I'll be moving out of state once my lease ends and getting a different job.

No room for a good weight setup in my place. Also pretty sure my neighbors would not like me doing deadlifts banging on the floor all day.

Well that certainly sucks. In Germany you have something like a rest time which is 11 hours long. Meaning if you've worked for 8 hours a day, you are not allowed to work for the next 11 hours. They are exceptions though. Also 10 hours a day is max.

That's a good rule. I've tried explaining this to jobs when I apply, but they always seem confused.

"What? You need 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night, and you need to go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday? That's crazytalk! I get by on 6 hours a night therefore you should too!" - Every manager ever.

What's your diet consist of? Whey proteins, creatine and the like won't help. Switch to natural foods for better and longer energy. Water is great as well. I currently am doing apprentice electrical school Monday through Friday, 7AM-330Pm and then Saturday's and Sunday's work 12 hours a day as an oil refinery operator. It's manageable now because I'm feeding myself the right fuel and staying away from sugary beverages. This leaves little time for gaming lately, but that's okay! You gotta prioritize. Maybe consider cutting out the weight lifting if that's taking too much energy because that 40 minute bike ride will surely keep you in shape. Just gotta prioritize

Going back to the diet thing, what you're putting into your body is what you'll get out of. I've been feeling great lately with a ton of energy. That's thanks to vegetables and fruit and meat. No time for junk food

Oatmeal, Eggs, Sweet Potatoes, Milk, Chicken, Apples, Bannanas, Raisin Toast, Brown Rice, and all natural Whey. No Creatine or "Proprietary mystery blend" whey for me.

So your diet is fine, you exercise, and I assume you don't spent all of your freetime on technology.

I think you can't change anything besides either getting better transportation, moving closer to your job, or changing the schedule. Regardless of what you do, I hope you find something that improves your situation
