According to Chartz, the PS4 has now passed the NES according to the homepage which shows the PS4 at 62 milion.

This means that the 3DS is next up to be outsold by the PS4.  Now we know that Sony has predicted 78 million sales by next April.  This means that they will eventually catch the 3DS by next year at the latest and take down PSP and GBA and eventually the PS3 before 2019.  The question I am asking is can the PS4 outsell the 3DS before 12/31/2017?

Edit:  After 360 and PS3 goes down, we can really start predicting how long before the PS4 makes top 5.  I think its possible and I will say before the end of 2019.

PS4 will easily make top 5. I think it can land between the Gameboy and the 2 big boys, though that depends on how much longer it will last and/or when the PS5 launches.

Edit: oh and yeah, it should pass the 3DS before the end of the year.



Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Yes, it shouldn't be a problem for PS4 to surpass Nintendo 3DS in 2017.

We have almost sure that PS4 will pass 100M... but for this year I think it can pass 3DS.

So then the Wii U is the next big target.  Its still hard to believe that the PS4 will be able to do it before the end of 2019 and then it should get a good 10 million after the PS5 is announced and PS4 hits rock bottom prices.

How is this even a prediction? Lol.

The matter of fact is, that for what the 3DS is, it should have sold way better. By the time it's done shipping, it may at best sell GBA numbers, but honestly it should have done better than the GBA. I don't consider this an accomplishment, although it's amazing how fast it will have happened.

I mean, the 3DS can still sell millions of games, the 2DS is a great cheap console and its not like its going anywhere anytime soon.  I could see it selling another 5 million before its done.

What is the point of this prediction? This isn't up for debate: We already know how well each console will sell this year. To pass 3DS, PS4 needs to outsell it in 2017 by 10 million units. The gap last year was 10.1 million. PS4 is currently up YoY by about 2 million units, while 3DS is down 400k, indicating that this year's gap will be even larger than 2016's. It's a given that PS4 will be ahead by the end of the year.
