It's good that they're keeping their file sizes for their games really small but they kinda have to with the internal HD space the NS has. I think that this will be a problem that ultimately impends most 3rd party devs/pubs from putting games on the NS. I hope that Nintendo eventually comes up with a NS SKU with a much higher internal HD to accommodate 3rd party devs/pubs who want to bring their games to the NS and gamers who want to play those kind of games without having to buy a miniSD just to play the game.

They dont need to, Switch memory is very easily expandable buy MicroSD cards. We already have some digital 3rd party games that take hole Switch internal memory, but that isn't problem also when you can very easily expand memory buy Micro SD card, so if you go digital with Switch you will buy MicroSD later or sooner in any case.

Oh my!It makes Nintendo feat even more impressive!Making a PS3 game look better than most games PS4 and XOne has!

Kudos Nintendo

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

They don't have to, but they're heavily incentivized to. Larger files leads to more expensive cartridges for Nintendo, and their consumers spending more money on stuff that doesn't benefit Nintendo themselves (and for those with less money that expense will also often mean less game purchases in general).

Fortunately for Nintendo many of their games are already fairly well suited to small files. They're often technically reserved, have few custscenes, less audio files, and have to deal with smaller asset files than a PS4/X1 title. Add in some relatively aggressive compression (since the financial upsides is worth the technical downsides for them) and you end up with a fairly small file.

That's the benefit of having 30+ years experience working with cartridges Besides, Nintendo knows that their stuff is all killer and no filler.

Meanwhile, most 3rd party devs see a 50GB Blu-Ray disc and are like "compression?" What's that? Not to mention the fact that so many PS4/XB1 titles not only are huge to begin with and require mandatory installs, but the additional updates / patches and content often DOUBLE the total HDD space taken up by the game. Doom on PS4 for example was initially a 47GB install which you'd think is huge enough for a linear shooter, but with the patches and multiplayer updates it's since taken up an additional +/- 40GB on my PS4's HDD.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

That's a really weak excuse for HD space in a 9th gen console that's even smaller than the HD space in gen 7 consoles. Of course, if you only compare HD space in nintendo consoles, it might seem okay or at least the same as a wii u deluxe but it's definitely not enough for even 7th gen 3rd party games, much less 8th gen 3rd party games.

You should be able to buy and play any game with a new console without having to buy SD cards or external HDs.

Back to my main point "I hope that Nintendo eventually comes up with a NS SKU with a much higher internal HD to accommodate 3rd party devs/pubs who want to bring their games to the NS and gamers who want to play those kind of games without having to buy a miniSD just to play the game."
