Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If someone told me in 2016 that LA Noir, Skyrim, Doom and Wolfenstein and a new Square RPG are coming to the Switch, yet Megaman, Disney Afternoon, Okami HD are not I would't believe it

I think people are beginning to understand that it's not about some kind of silly grudge from decades ago, it's about starting strong and working to form mutually beneficial business partnerships.

Yeah, that grudge from ages ago was mostly the reasoning of people explaining the wrongdoings of Nintendo. Obviously it has more to do with the prospects of selling games. And look, you can even port a technical powerhouse like Doom to a weaker platform. It was never about Nintendos consoles being too weak or 3rd-parties holding a grudge, it was always about 3rd-parties selling worse on Nintendo-machines.

I don't know what is different this time, that explains the changes. Maybe that console games can be taken on the go. On the other hand, this was already the thing of the Vita, and we all saw where this lead. But seemingly stuff is different, if already multiple indies declared their strongest sales on Switch and japanese companies told their test-games were successes.

In this environment Capcoms actions puzzles me even more. Capcom had good relations in the past and it is proven that Resident Evil and Monster Hunter sell on Nintendo-machines. Why Capcom is somewhat reluctant is beyond me. maybe that changes if Revelations is selling well.

First, let's take a look at what Pete Hines from Bethesda had to say about Wii U support:

"The time for convincing publishers and developers to support Wii U has long passed," Hines said. "The box is out.

"You have to do what Sony and Microsoft has been doing with us for a long time," he added. "And it's not that every time we met with them we got all the answers we wanted, but they involved us very early on and talked to folks like Bethesda and Gearbox [sic] and saying, 'here's what we're doing, here's what we're planning, here's how we think it's going to work.' To hear what we thought, from our tech guys and from an experience standpoint, what we thought.

"You have to spend an unbelievable amount of time up front doing that. If you're going to just decide, 'we're going to make a box, and this is how it's going to work and you should make games for it,' well, no. No is my answer."  Link

With the announcement of Skyrim at the reveal, I think we have to assume that Nintendo did put in the work this time around.  Perhaps the Wii U convinced some of the old guard that Nintendo can't just "make a box" anymore.  Business is as much about making phone calls as making a product, really.

As for Capcom, they've always spread their games around on different systems.  I've never understood it but that's a model they've used for a long time.  I think they throw darts to decide.

Around the Network

I think people here don't know that Capcom likes money. Money that Sony provides in the form of exclusivity deals. In this regard I believe Capcom is very much halfway into Sony's pocket.

I mostly clicked on this thread so that I could read the full title lol. Now that I'm here I may as well comment.

I wouldn't have believed it either :P

Well, it might be true or not, as it goes down behind closed doors. Maybe you're right.
