Forums - Sony Discussion - Bruce Straley leaves Naughty Dog

Maybe ND will go back to make other stuff than UC or Tlou after Tlou part 2.

I mean I wouldn't mind another platformer in the same mind as Jack & Dexter ^^

You say that then ask for Jak and Daxter.... and then if that were to happen people will say they wish ND would make something other than a platformer.

naughty dog does something that we cant really say about most studios.... they basically spearhead a new IP every generation. In the case of the PS3 they even had two.

So this gen, we jno we are getting TLoU and maybe another new IP or they would revisit an old one......

To OP..... Call me crazy, but I never worry about talent leaving any of sony's studios.....

You don't need co-directors when you're working on Knack 3.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Maybe he got burned out on working on Uncharted and The Last of Us... personally I'd have been completely fine with only one TLoU game, in fact I actually like how it ended, and didn't want a sequel... I'll still be buying the second game, but it's not something I wanted or was looking forward to. I really want to see a new IP, and maybe he did too?

it seems that working at ND (and from what i read, other major AAA devs as well), is just too taxing with a lot of pressure and work hours involved. ND seems to have a lot.... ALOT of say of what they work on and how they do it. if he wanted to work on a new IP, im sure he could have gathered a team after UC4 and began work on one.

Sad that he left, but ND hasn't sufferend when other big names left in the past.

People asking for cartoony games are gonna be disappointed. ND is their Hollywood studio, if not a zombie outbreak game, they will keep doing cinematic games in other genres. Most people probably want a scifi adventure though. It shouldn't necessarily be about space n stuff a la Mass Effect, but something like the movie Ex Machina.

He also directed uncharted 2 which is in my opinion still their best game, it is worrying that a lot of the higher ups are leaving

That was Amy Hennig who left a long time ago.

I feel like Neil couldn't handle TLOU2 on his own. I'm very scared now.

Not anime enough? (I tend to favor cartoonier games myself)

@OP

If I recall correctly, Amy pointed out long hours during crunch time which might explain why some have left... I hate having to work overtime so I can understand the sentiment.

Too cinematic, too linear, too setpiece driven. I want to say the same about the new God of War for example, and many many other games to be honest. Not my thing!

...also, not anime enough.

You haven't played neither TLOU nor the new God of War obviously. Uncharted is much more cinematic than TLOU that has great gameplay and actually has not much cinematics.

The developers are overworked, and it shows with the people leaving here. Unfortunately, I don't see the situation changing soon, since fans want the games to be released in a timely fashion, and the publishers want the developers to get on with it and make continual progress.

Nope. I have not. It is unlikely that I am touching anything "story driven" from ND or even Sony for that matter at this point. The new God of War, you have not played it either, but from what they showed, it was more story driven gubbins.

The problem with uncharted is not the cinematics anyway, it's the shooty shoot -> corridor -> cutscene -> crappy immersion breaking puzzle -> repeat. This is not an issue with just Uncharted, it is a global issue of western gaming as a whole.

AAA development is very taxing, maybe he has just had enough.

Ugh, i always felt he was the best part of the Druckmann/Straley duo.
