Yeah you're correct. When I heard this news, I figured the sabbatical was the suggested alternative to him leaving back then, so he had time to mull over his decision.

If I recall correctly, Amy pointed out long hours during crunch time which might explain why some have left... I hate having to work overtime so I can understand the sentiment.

Too cinematic, too linear, too setpiece driven. I want to say the same about the new God of War for example, and many many other games to be honest. Not my thing!

...also, not anime enough.

He also directed uncharted 2 which is in my opinion still their best game, it is worrying that a lot of the higher ups are leaving

Could very well just be natural turnaround. It's not all that uncommon for people working in video games to leave a developer to form their own studio or go work somewhere after finishing a project. He may have just wanted to go work on something different for example.
