Forums - Sales Discussion - UK: Nintendo Switch sales above XB1 for the year, but below PS4

There has been a general decline in interest in Xbox I think. Many people have migrated away to PS4 and others are simply choosing PS4 over Xbox one when they buy a console. Lack of exclusives, weaker versions of games, smaller range of games etc.

I don't think its related to Switch at all its more related to their failure to compete with ps4.

I own both ps4 and xbox one and as much as love my xbox it just feels like the success of ps4 is accelerating. It's not really a choice between xbox one and Switch they don't have the same type of content. Multiplayer first person shooters are really important on PS4 and Xbox but there is nothing like that on Switch and that is just one example of game genres that are popular.

The Switch is it's own distinct area with Nintendo developed titles and portability. It's a good console to own in addition to owning a PS4 or Xbox but not really an alternative to one of them.

We already know X1 is on a drag this year. The question is if in UK PS4 or Switch will end 1st.

We're talking about the UK here stock shortages doesn't apply. Even the author of the tweet says so.

Thrre are still shortages, just not as bad as other places

As it stands right now I don't think there are shortages in the UK. Argos, Game, Amazon UK, Nintendo UK - all have stock. In fact, game had a £20 discount for 1 day recently.

Key Word: UK

One of the worst markets for Nintendo, this is pretty great anyways.

It's been good for Nintendo portables but not so good for their home consoles and with the Switch being in both camps it should be safe.

Easily PS4 I would of thought. Besides the Christmas season is often about price and availability which will likely favour the PS4 immensely and that is when a huge chunk of consoles are sold. At close to £300 the Switch just isn't a choice for a lot of people especially for those who have 3 or 4 kids to buy presents for.

I also think this year PS4 will end ahead (even more considering their expectations of sales - Ninty and Sony), but when looking at a single market like this we could have some surprises.

Exclusives people, exclusives.

As much as some will try to downplay the importance of exclusives on a console, they are the No. 1 reason to own one (imo).

Nintendo and Sony has been doing great in this department, Xbox not so much and it shows in sales.

The majority of people dont give a shit about more pixels, i dont buy the "people are waiting for the X" excuse.

The Xbox One is just too....samey.

You reminded me of the problem I had with this tweet - it doesn't provide any useful comparison with the 3DS (i.e. the Nintendo handhelds) for the past few years.

This doesn't really tell us that the Nintendo market in the UK expanded in 2017.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

All this tells us is that VGChartz is seriously off with regards to Switch and XOne in UK. If Switch is currently ahead as of September 13, that gives it 7.5 weeks to close a gap of 97k: This means it needs to outsell the XOne by an average of 12.9k per week, which is utterly ridiculous. It didn't even sell half of that amount in total during Splatoon 2's launch week.
