Yeah, the closest they have is less than half GTAV's sales. And that was during the casual era which they weren't able to re-capture with the WiiU or 3DS. The closest is a Pokemon game pair at roughly 16M.

24 out of the 30 best selling games of all time are Nintendo games. 5 of the 6 others are GTA games.

Nintendo will probably never make a game that can outsell GTA 5 (since they're tied to only one console), but they still have better chances to do it than anyone else.

By the way, the best selling Nintendo game is at 82.5 million, which is just as much as GTA 5.

Yeah, I'm still right and I'm not counting pack-ins. Let me know when Nintendo is able to make a game that sells over 30M again.

The only company that could rival GTA in sales would be nintendo but obviously in rockstars case it has an overwhelming advantage

Activision?

Their COD games sell what 20-30m a year? Now if they were to release them 4-5 years apart instead of every year and were to have regular updates in that time period (ie. same release pattern that GTA has) it's not unrealistic to think they could have GTAV kind of legs.

Not to mention have that same COD game span 2 generations of consoles. Cause you know that 80 million figure is a lot of double dippers that have it for both their PS3 or 360 and then later on their One or PS4.

Based on VGC (which I assume gets its Japan figures from MC/Famitsu) it sold 3.77m in Japan. Which while good means about 70% of Japanese Wii buyers didn't want it. If the same had been true in the west (and they weren't forced to have it regardless of whether they wanted it (yes, I'm still bitter about being forced to have a game I didn't want!)) then the amount it would have actually sold would be nowhere near the likes of GTAV.

You do know GTA V has been heavily bundled on PS3, PS4, X360 and XOne, right?  Even now it's still bundled online and in many stores. It's also had 6 editions and released on 5 platforms.

If we're going to knock Wii Sports for bundling, you better play it fair.  No doubt that GTA V would still be one of the best selling games of all time without the bundles and very likely is the highest seller of all time if bundles are removed.  But we have no way to know the ratio of bundled to unbunbled sales.

Are you comparing a game  released in one system vs a game released in five systens?

GTAV was in five diferent system, all released in worldwide market. The sum o instaled base is almost 300 M and the Wii sels only 100M.

Tetris so is a a bigger game because sell more than GTA V in various system.

Crazy comparison

...Minecraft would be too.

How long has it been since GTA V was sold at full price? I'm sure being around $20-30 enticed late consumers.

The reasoned comparison is unique SKU relation against the installed base.

Mario Kart Wii x GTAV on PS3

New Mario Bros Wii x GTAV on PS3.

That is more correct. By two factors:

First, the games are contemporary, so do not consider population change as a factor. It also does not have to consider the availability of the consoles in each market, since the availability in this case, Wii and PS3, is similar.

Stop trying to downplay GTAV. You are making me look stupid by association.

I'm seeing the most extravagant excuses to discount GTA V sales (and I don't even like or have played it).

All I'm seeing is justification for Nintendo to go third party so instead of having 100M to sell WiiSports or 14M to sell Mario 3D they would have over 500M customers considering all consoles and PC and perhaps over 3Billion with all smartphones. But I'm certain most of the guys doing this discounts wouldn't agree with Nintendo going 3rd party.

Have people in VGC still haven't learn that the correlation between userbase and SW sold is very loose? You can't put a game that sold 5M on a 10M userbase would sell 50M on a 100M userbase. If that happened all Nintendo franchises on Wii would be monstruous sellers when looking at how much they sold on WiiU.

The less sales the HW have the more likely to be hardcore dedicated fans and genre followers is to happen.

When the next nintendo game sells 30mil im sure you'll spin thar too.

That said its hard to do because of the install base. Name a game that sold over 25mil on a sony/xbox console?

Edit: not to downplay gtav as its going to be in the top best sellers of all time with best legs ever, but lets not forget that its on installnbases of over 300mil. With a good percentage of double dipping

GTAV one of the most bundled games of all time! Do you have any proof of this?
