Forums - General Discussion - Pewdiepie Drops the N word on a Livestream

NSFW and don't watch if easily offended.

Around the Network

Usually I don't at all care for scandals like this but man the advertiser boycott on youtube going on right now this was a big fuck up on his end.

I knew there would be people trying to justify this sad human being. I hope this is the final nail in his coffin.

Good riddance!

Just confirms what I kinda suspected for a while ... this doofus is a racist piece of shit.

Have fun with your "career" now you fuck up.

This isn't the first time ever that he streams, but it is the first time we ever hear him say it. So no, it's not part of his daily vocabulary, and he doesn't call everyone it or whatever.

Regardless, he should know better. There are already a lot of eyes on him, and he has a bad history with the topic. It's wrong, and people are gonna blow it out of proportion even if there's no inherently racist intent in it (though the fact everyone avoids saying it should tell you enough).

The big problem about this though is that as much as we hate it, Pewdiepie is the face of LPs/gaming content on Youtube. This gives everyone in the community a bad look, and is definitely gonna affect any kids that watch him or the parents that watch over the content kids watch online. It affects the game being streamed (PUBG), it affects the media used (Twitch), and it affects how people look at gamers. Yes, for one 6 letter word people are gonna overreact. You shouldn't be surprised by it.

Personally, it's no big deal. I've watched dozens of streams where people say it to each other like "bro" or "dude" (like Etika, or GCPM11). I don't even know why the word has such bad fame, but I know you're a racist fuck if you say it, so I never say it. But again, the problem here is the history Pewdiepie has with the topic, and how huge of a star he is. He can't get a free pass just because it's comedy, either.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Saying it with an "a" ending is one thing as that's common hip hop slang for bro.

Saying it with the hard "er" like he did is deliberate and racist, and he can own it now. Hope this dude skinny fuck never runs into black people in real life or he's liable to get snapped in half. "er" is never used like "bro" or "dude".

It's also a matter of how that word is being used. Using the N word as an insult towards a black person and using the N word to cuss have different intentions and effects.

And yes, I also find it silly to be super offended over a slur. I've been called a chink multiple times in the past and I just shrug it off. The people who throw the slur quickly give up because my lack of response ruins their fun.

Oh c'mon, slavery was abolished over a century ago so why does the current generation have the need to be obligated to feel as if they took the same struggles as their ancestors did ?

It's vomit inducing when you consider that those people have any pride at all in a part of their identity to spill tears over words ...

Like the saying goes, 'sticks and stones hurt but words never will' ...

And? It's not an offensive word. It has a modern meaning now.

Question, if I say the n word, when it's part of a song, at karaoke etc: is that offensive?

Yes, because the outlined scenario requires that you have bad taste in music.

Hahaha. It's funny because it's true.

Can we be honest here?

PewDiePie is annoying as hell. I never understood his appeal. In fact, I would say his kind has sort of ruined this generation of gaming.

Suddenly, there are a lot less gamers, but they EXPECT so much out of games, just because they watch "personalities" play the games for them. It's like expecting the real world to work a certain way, just based off of stand up comedians you like.

Anywho, if the developers of games don't want to be associated with your channel anymore. There is nothing wrong with that. They owe PewDiePie nothing. He owes THEM everything :)
