Forums - General Discussion - Pewdiepie Drops the N word on a Livestream

Was it addressed? Because I'm pretty sure you just pretended it wasn't a thing.

Can you clarify exactly what you think I just pretended wasn't a thing?

The part where you continued pretending that you weren't being the Thought Police while actively policing thought.

6. (bonus) I'm not saying words don't change value or meaning overtime, but do you really want to be the one paving the way to make the word acceptable?

Just real quick:

Why would stripping this word of its negative connotations be a bad thing?

Did you forget....

He's fully allowed to think and say as he likes.  He just must be ready to face the consequences of it.  Being ignorant is his decision.

See that first statement there?  That's not policing. Or are you going to pretend it doesn't exist?

You still very clearly implied fault for thinking it.

I'm not saying it would be a bad thing, but that really shouldn't be a thing decided by anyone except those that the word affects. If black people as a group come out and say that using the n word is now ok, then so be it, otherwise it still will always have those connotations.

If a group of white people said "the n word has no more power, so we're gonna use it whenever we want and you can't do anything about it because it's meaningless," well you can guess how that would turn out

So...I'm just going to repost it.

He's fully allowed to think and say as he likes.  He just must be ready to face the consequences of it.  Being ignorant is his decision.

By the way.  Some white teens tried to lynch a black kid yesterday. But I guess we should just ignore these racial problems and "pretend it doesn't exist".

Okay, and what you're saying now completely classes with your prior stance of "He was thinking it anyway, so he's a racist".

And where did you even jump off from to get to that? Who said racism doesn't exist? How does that play at all into your blatant thought policing, or into anyone else having called you out on it? Are you just randomly playing a race card in hopes that it works?

So you wouldn't say PewDiePie is being affected by the word?

The word hurts the feelings of many, but it hurts the livelihood of white people who say it. Just because it isn't directed at White people doesn't mean it can't hurt them. Felix let it slip and immediately apologized, but now it's a second YouTube apocalypse.

I'm curious. Is the use of this word such a big deal in english speaking countries or just some people who hate pewdiepie trying to take it out of proportion? Getting offended for this kind of stuff nowadays seems pretty naive to me, but who knows perhaps I'm in the minority and this is serious.

If you are going to use quotation marks, make damn certain you are quoting what they actually said and not what you think they said or you hope they said.

You know what, I'll save you looking for that post again.  I called him ignorant.  That's the only thing I've called him.

Yeah, wasn't a quote, it was generalizing your stance into a single statement that reflects it.

Care to elaborate then on why you went off into a tangent about an almost-lynching, and why it has any bearing on what's being discussed?

I'm not going to tell a person who is offended by what pewdiepie said, not to be offended. If you are, you are. If you're not, you're not. I'm not going to tell a black person how they should feel about it either.

At the end of the day, Piewdiepie deserves any backlash he gets. He fucked up.

This seems like a cultural thing. I'm honestly curious about if the people that thinks this is OK are native americans or not because VG Chartz is a multicultural site. PewDiePie is not american as well, so we may not fully understand how bad this social slur is.
