Forums - Movies & TV - Stephen Kings IT to become the Biggest Horror Movie of All Time

Friday it grossed 51 million (biggest R rated opening of all time)

Saturday estimates have it at 46.5 million(they keep climbing, but also biggest R rated second day, topping Deadpool again)

With Sunday the start of the football season and hurricane Irma they are expecting a drop. Expect Deadpool to hold the record (although fingers crossed because this was my IT move/mini series when I was young).

Just comparison the opening weekend was predicted at around 40, moved up to 60, and stopped at 85 million. Evetyone who tracks movies are blown away by how IT keeps floating up. At this point, accounting for inflation, IT is the "Biggest Opening for a Horror Title".

It really makes me wish that box office success was determined by ticket sales rather than gross, as inflation makes it impossible to compare between different eras.

hopefully this means hollywood will invest more in quality horror.

I'm glad it's doing so well. Horror films need to back a comeback in general.

Speaking of horror making a comeback, have you seen It Follows? One of the best horror movies I've seen.

More to IT success is that inflation counts the prices of 3D tickets, which I don't think IT is being shown in 3D. IT does have a IMAX buffer though.

The trailers look good. I'll watch it the next time I rent something.

Don't Breathe was another really good one imo. Gotta watch it follows when I have the chance. I miss slasher films though. Well the good ones.

I highly recommend It Follows. You won't be disapponted. I'll check out Don't Breathe.
