Ports on Nintendo Switch

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ports on Nintendo Switch

The more ports, the better. If you already own the game, you don't have to buy it again. It's made for the people who didn't get it the first time. And considering the Wii U was such a bomb, there's probably a lot of people who missed the games the first time.

In the case of the Swicth, I think it's a great idea seeing as many people didn't play the game on the Wii U.

It's difficult to say.

Personally, i would love some ports (really want Mario 3D World!), but for Switch's case, a console that is already lacking some really importante games, i don't think that it really benefits from having a lot of old ports.
Wii U had them at launch and people asked "why should i buy it".

For a console manufacturer, the ideal is that devs bring new games; gamers feel the same way. Developers are the ones that can be really happy about it because they will have a new market for them.

If things don't change, i'm afraid Switch will become a port machine in gamer's eyes as ports are frequent:
Street Fighter
Resident Evil Rev. 1 & 2
Dragon Quest X
Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2
L A Noire
Rayman Legends
MK 8
Batman: The Telltale Series
Disgaea 5
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star
a few other japanese games more
a "few" more Indie games

That's, 15 games?
If the list had all the games that were ported, it would be even bigger...
And this for a console that has been on the market for 6 months (10, if we include the ports that were announced and yet to release). It really is a lot.

TBH i think most of it is due t WiiU failing.

If it didn't fail we wouldn't see it to this extent.

If you analyze what you can expect from third parties, it's abundantly clear that ports will play a large role. Indie developers have ported their games to as many platforms as possible in the past few years, so Switch not being an exception is no surprise. Big third party publishers had Nintendo written off as usual, and ports are the quickest thing to do when companies are scrambling to put content on a new platform. Japanese third parties were slow to move to the 3DS despite the success of the DS, so a similar delay was a given for Switch; they'll be present with new games from 2018 onwards.

When it comes to Nintendo's efforts, new games easily outnumber their ports this year, so there's no shortage of new high quality content for people who bought a Switch early. Even if you don't buy the ports (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken DX), they sure help the system's momentum. Which is why Switch has gone from "over 80 games in development" in January to already over 80 games released by the end of August; this figure excludes all the Neo Geo games. It was really only seven months ago that we had discussions about Switch struggling to see game releases.

If you are bothered by ports, it helps to look at how previous consoles have fared in terms of new content. Switch is easily up there with the best.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

I don't have a switch yet, but bring dark souls to it.

Bring neptunia and overwatch to switch

Other games to consider

Naruto shippuden ninja strom collection

Wii sports

The first 10 mega man games

Tomodachi life

Pokemon diamond and pearl

Mario 64

Street fighter 4

Persona 4

Mother 3

If it's the definitive version of the port, then I'm definitely all for it. However, if that actually lies elsewhere with another console, then I'd have to say that I'd rather not get the Switch version. I guess those that only buy Nintendo consoles would like it, but for someone like me who is a multiplat gamer, I don't see the value in that.

I think it's cheap (artistically and creatively null) and hate them with a passion. It's probably generational though.

Ports doesn't mean there will not be new games, more games is good thing for any platform any way, including ports.

So I definitely want more Wii/WiiU/3DS/Vita/PS3/Xbox360/XB1/PS4 ports/remasters.
