Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ports on Nintendo Switch

What do you guys think about ports on the Nintendo Switch? Wii U ports like MK8, Pokken, Rayman and non-Wii U ports like Syberia. I think ports are ok if kept to a minimum but otherwise, I think these companies should focus on new IP's or current gen ports, not past generation ports. I just want to hear your thoughts on this issue. No need to fight or insult here, I'm just curious about what you guys think.

If it was a zero-sum game, then I'd definitely want studios to prioritize newer projects. But I doubt ports like Pokken and Rayman take away a lot of resources from other titles. In the case of MK8, I'm very glad Nintendo made it. The addition of battle mode makes what was already, arguably, the best racer ever even better.

As far as current gen ports, we're seeing a lot in the pipeline: Rocket League, Owlboy, NBA 2K18, etc.

I think it's no different than porting Wii/WiiU games to 3DS.

Home to handheld porting/downgrading isn't new and it's better than home to home remasters.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Whatever gives me things to play that I haven't before.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

The Nintendo platform has long had a issue getting games that Sony&MS had.... now Nintendo is getting some PS3/Xb360 games in form of ports.

And its a good thing, more games that reach a broader market.

Also same is true with the Wii U ports, lots of people didnt ever get a Wii U, and thus missed being able to play those. Its a good thing the Switch is giveing users that choice.

I think Nintendo porting their old games over as system sellers is in some ways good and some bad, and it's disgusting that it's being accepted just because of business ideals.

I am fine with third parties bringing over any game.

I don't like ports, and certainly don't think they should be used to tentpole consoles that simply don't have a proper library already in place. Essentially ports should be used to accent an already thriving pool of new games, in a perfect world, lol. Seems like more and more they are used to fill outright empty months for games on consoles.

I don't care for their existence, meaning that on one hand I won't buy the same game twice nor a new console to play games that exist in consoles that I already own, and on the other hand I'm fine with companies giving people that didn't play those games a new chance to try them.

It's not like everybody played every game on every console. And with each year, new gamers which were too small to enjoy those game on release, will now get an additional chance of playing those. Also, it increases the library of games available on the system and that's always a welcome. There is something for everyone here. And with the ability of taking those game with you it offers a new experience to enjoy them.

And recently the least expected game "L.A. Noire" was being announced for the switch. I enjoyed it very much on the PC. And I hope that a port on the newer consoles will lead to a sequel.

When speaking about third party developers, I would rather companies just release next generation versions of their 3DS franchises instead so that Switch can have a unique market instead of overlapping so closely with PS4/XBOX One. Ports are not all bad but that is my preference.

When speaking about Nintendo themselves, I do not care. If I own the game already, I will not buy it again. If I never got around to the game previously or feel the online community will be stronger with the updated port, then I will buy it. They do not bother me either way.
