Forums - Gaming Discussion - Cartridges or optical discs?

I prefer...

Cartridges 381 78.56%

Optical discs 104 21.44%

Total:485

Cartridges as they fit my playstyle way more. I switch between games a lot so carts are superior in that regard.
I only tolerate discs if I play a RPGs. (Since I will not be switching games as often.)

(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Prefer digital. Not in the poll. Internet here in Canada is good except remote areas. All my stuff is digital, movies, music and games. Don't want the physical clutter to carry around.

I second this. Nothing beats digital on an SSD.

As for the OP. I would go with discs. They have always treated me right, and now they are just a means of getting the data to the SSD anyways.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Cartridges for portable gaming... I don't really have a preference for home console. These days the data just gets "installed" to the HDD. A small difference in read write speed doesn't particularly matter when you only have to do it once and the difference overall would probably only take a minute out of your time.

Cards. Less spinning parts with cards and they're more durable.

Cartridges really. I don't really like handling CDs. I feel as if I need to treat them with care, making sure it gets no scratches or dropping it. They're a little bothersome for me. Carts on the other hand feel more durable and easier to manage. Also, I don't really see CDs working out well with a system like a Switch, so... carts it is def.

Have no preference really ...

Carts and by carts, I mean Atari 2600 through N64 carts. What we're using now are tiny little memory cards. I'd rather have discs than those.

As to why? They're more durable and they almost instantly load. There's also just something infinitely more enjoyable about collecting them.

But more expensive too!

I'm willing to pay more for (what I feel) is a better experience. If a game is $39.99 digitially and $59.99 physically, I'm paying $59.99 100% of the time because I love physically owning my games. The same goes for carts. If I had to pay a $10.00 premium to have a cart instead of a disc, I'm going to pay it.

I'm not just talking $10 though, say for the PS1 vs. N64 games the N64 version is usually a lot more.
