Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NBA 2K18 for Switch has same content and modes as PS4 version, runs at 30fps

" 2K Sports and Visual Concepts seem to be treating the Switch version of NBA 2K18 well. Folks are starting to go hands on with the game, including USgamer, and we’re hearing that it’s feature complete and will be identical to the PlayStation 4 version.  The only element missing in the Switch version of NBA 2K18 is the ability to create a custom logo for Pro-Am teams. The same MyPlayer story included in other versions is here though.

As far as graphics go, animation and AI are also the same across all platforms. Developer Visual Concepts apparently pushed Switch and its memory to its absolute limits. The team considered whether or not using the same engine made sense, but they’re glad they went in that direction. NBA 2K18 will run at 30 frames per second, while the PlayStation and Xbox One versions are 60 FPS."

I'm glad the Switch has all the content, and I don't think the lower frame-rate will affect the game too much. Hopefully it performs well.

30FPS against 60FPS sounds to me like exactly only half of the content.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Good news, been wanting a console quality nba to play on the go, playing 2k17 on my mobile phone was fun for a while but touchscreen really made it hard for me to play longer, great that I can finally experience MyCareer for much longer without staying in front of my pc or playing with the tiring controls on my phone, good news indeed.

Very good to see it feature complete and a good effort. However, I think they made a terrible mistake not making absolutely dead certain it had a physical release same day as other machines. Releasing it digital only and then following up with a physical version will likely have a negative impact on sales. Possibly a devastating impact.

People are so quick to say that gameplay and framerate are better than graphics, but don't complain about this port...

It's not hypocritical, just kind of interesting.

It's possible that the folks who consider frame rate more important than resolution and AA and god rays also consider 30 FPS acceptable. I know I do. Achieving 60 FPS isn't very important to me, and things like textures and lighting effects are even less important.

I guess it's kind of a moot point, as I don't plan to buy 2K18 for any platform

The point isnt that 30fps is or isnt acceptable, i think it is although id imagine sports games benefit from framerate. I just think the priority should probably be on framerate, and id argue the reason no one is complaining has more to do with wanting to promote one of Switch's "big third party" ports. Its all about framerate until it isnt, lol.

I totally get your point. I just wanted to propose a different hypothesis.

I imagine the reason most Switch owners aren't complaining is that most Switch owners simply don't care. They either don't care much about high FPS or, like me, they don't care about the game in general. I think someone can consider 60 FPS > resolution and at the same time consider other stuff, for example portability > 60 FPS.

Because it's a Switch game.

The same will happen with Sonic Forces which apparently runs at 30fps on Switch and 60 on other consoles. A game at that speed should be close to 60fps, but on Switch it doesn't matter suddenly.
