Forums - Sony Discussion - Can we expect a new PS4 console reveal at TGS?

So PS4 was announced in february 2013.
It launched november 2013 (and february 2014 in Japan)

PS4 pro ans PS4 slim were announced last year in september 2016. The slim launched september 2016 and the Pro in november 2016.

Is there any chance Sony will reveal new hardware at this years TGS on their conference 19th september?
Too soon for a PS4 hardware refresh? Perhaps, but would they sit on their laurrels, while Xbox one X will be more powerfull and arrive later this year?

Obviosly games are as always the driving force behind a console, and from a momentum and games perspective, Sony can rely on their present hardware, for the foreseeable future, despite a more powerful Xbox one X (that really does'nt have that many games to compete with).

Or perhaps a reveal of PSVR 2.0 or a new PSP even?

Nope. Im pretty certain the hardware team is hard at work with the PS5 right now.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I don't think they have one hardware team, doing one project at a time.
They surely must have multiple, working on either PS5, PSnow capabilities, current PS4 refreshes/tuning, a new PSP perhaps, and the of course PSVR.
IT would be unwise to put all your hardware employees into one basket.

what is wrong with the pro? don't need even more models.

may as well release an emulator for the PC if they reveal another one lol

They don't need any new hardware to continue selling far, far beyond XBO/XBOX numbers. The games carry the PS4, just like you said.

Also, this new PSP idea needs to die. Look how badly they fucked up and just how they abandoned the Vita. They are out - especially when their competition is the Switch.

Why? The system is selling like hot cakes.

More and more games are coming so the trend is expecting to continue to the next year.

No, why would you expect something so soon, they're not on a yearly schedule. If the Super Slim and Slim Pro will exist, it's next year at the earliest and 2019 at the latest, and then PS5 in 2020. PS3 Super Slim launched a year before PS4.

unless Sony going to kill the Pro which is not even one year old, same thing for PSVR

new generation PSP are welcome but very unlikely at the moment

No need. If they want to compete with the X they could simply give the Pro a price cut. The former isn't even out yet so we don't even know if that's called for yet. These are still niche products anyway. Since they need complete compatibility with their base models, they offer a marginally improved experience at a premium price. Another more powerful (and expensive) midgen console wouldn't change that. The PS4 Slim will outsell them both combined and the One S could even do the same.

The next consoles from both MS and Sony (apart from maybe some super slims) will likely be revealed whenever AMD's 7nm apu is ready for the mass market (perhaps a Q1 2020 reveal, Q3 release). If so, they will have the most identical hardware and performance of any competing consoles in history - probably a good thing if it lessens the bickering and puts more focus on software and service.

PSP3 is unlikely. PSVR2 will likely follow the PS5, presumably with a 4k screen and new, more responsive controls (possibly even built into the DS5).

Perhaps the best guess, if any new hardware should be revealed, would be a PSVR 2.0, with better stats, and perhaps some kind of wireless capability.
I mean so many out there are messing around with upcoming VR hardware, let alone Mixed reality and AR hardware. I believe Sony is working on thier next PSVR hardware, perhaps a reveal now, and release next year, although the current PSVR came out last october...
