It's missing. freaking. features.

If they gave enough of a shit they could have had the GAMEPLAY features here in full.  If that were the case, the engine switch wouldn't matter.  But since they want to imply that somehow the two are connected, since they use the switch as a limp, pathetic excuse for why they can't be assed to put in the same effort on Switch as the other current platforms, I'm not going to defend them.  Because not only is the exclusion of features lazy and cheap, the attempt to pass it off as tied to the freaking engine is just contemptuous.  This attitude is not something I am going to defend and not something any consumer should defend.

NBA 2k18 is a very good effort.  This is the usually EA "I guess we gotta put SOMETHING on the system, *sigh*" effort that they've put in time and time and time again.  That last noteworthy effort I can think of by EA on a Nintendo platform was Nead for Speed: Most Wanted in 2013.

No, it isn't garbage.  But since when did "not garbage" become the gold standard?

Are you referring to me with this line ?

And don't even compare the two different sports game series where one is more guilty of rehashing the engine (NBA) than the other (FIFA) ...

Sometimes content is tied to technical rather than logistic or creative reasons! The probable reason why journey mode was primarily designed around the Frostbite 3 in specific rather than the other engines is because ALL of the cutscenes are rendered at 30FPS on consoles with higher quality graphics to boot and more varied environments compared to the ingame graphics ... (Just how do you propose EA make the content work on the Switch ?)

I don't really consider FIFA "hobbled". Switch is going to have to have some compromises, it's far less capable hardware than a XB1/PS4 for obvious reasons ... it has to be able to run at 5 watts whereas a PS4 runs at 60 watts electricity.

The "don't buy it, hobbled" police are full of crap here IMO. This is a legit good version that EA has put real effort into and there's nothing close to as good of a portable soccer experience available anywhere else.

Buy it for fucks sake. You can't exactly put your PS4 in your back pack and play it on an airplane.

This is a very good effort from EA from the sounds of it and I hope they are rewarded with decent sales. I'd dearly love to have an NHL 2017 port of similar quality (60 fps) that I could play on long flights, that would be amazing. There are a lot of other IP from EA aside from the obvious ones I'd love on Switch as well ... like Sim City would be great on the system.

NBA 2K does not come without compromises, apparently they got (an obviously modified) actual engine running on Switch, but at a steep price it seems -- 30 fps instead of 60.

EA got FIFA at 60 fps while using a custom engine.

There are pros/cons here to either approach, I think honestly I would've preferred 60 fps for NBA2K with a custom engine.

EA has done good, I would kill for a NHL port on Switch as good as what soccer fans are getting with FIFA for Switch, a lot of others would probably say the same for Madden NFL.

With Switch it's not about having every damn feature. It's about being able to play reasonably "console type" sports sims on the road for the first time ever. That's the big deal here, PSP/Vita had some OK sports sims, but none of them really made you go "oh wow, this is pretty close to FIFA/Madden/NBA2K at home". Nor did it have the ability to pop off Joycons and play multi in a snap, that feature really actually favors sports games moreso than many other genres. Sports should be a big genre for the Switch unlike some of the previous Nintendo systems.

I am referring to EA.  EA implied themselves that The Journey is only possible if Frostbite is used.  And that's just ridiculous.  They could have reconstructed those cutscenes in the new engine, it's not rocket science.  The two engines obviously have similar toolsets if they have their teams working on both and both are internal engines.

This isn't a zero sum game.  FIFA could have been feature complete with the new engine,  EA just didn't spend the money.  I'm not opposed to using custom engines, I'm apposed to cutting out features for now logical reason other than to save money and then USING the change in engine to try and explain that decision away rather than being honest with the audience.

I like the Switch and all too, but lets also be pragmatic here -- it has a userbase of like 5 million. Which is on the high end of what EA could've possibly expected given how Wii U went. Why should it have the same amount of money spent on it as the other versions that have like 6x-10x the userbase? EA could've basically just waited until next year like most third parties are doing with Switch.

You are getting the best portable soccer game ever made that you can play anywhere with friends even that takes advantage of the Switch hardware modes fairly well. Yes it's missing one mode, do people even really use that mode that much? It sounds pretty lame to me. I would kill to have a similar quality port of NHL 18 on Switch, FIFA/soccer fans who have a Switch are freaking lucky.

In it's current form ? Absolutely ...

It's practically possible to backport content to ANY older/weaker platforms (just like how we have FFXV Pocket Edition for weaker systems), that goes for any current gen games as well too but that's for the devs to decide if it's worth the trade off to specialize for either every system out there or at a ballpark ...

Just because EA decided cut one game mode for some versions doesn't mean that their automatically being lazy since resources like time and money are at play ... (It blows my mind how some people will assume that when their likely too ignorant of the realities.)

Madden NFL 2018 which will be a first for the series to transition to Frostbite will have a story mode similar to that of journey mode in FIFA and it won't run on last gen systems or system of similar tier regardless! (Content is made with technical consideration ALL OF THE TIME so I don't understand what to get all up in arms about. Heck, you may as well raise the argument for just about every game.)

Okay, we finally have the confirmed release date for the Switch version of Skyrim: November 17th
Compared to FIFA's September 22nd, it has more than a month of advantage over Skyrim, but time will only tell.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Okay, so Skyrim on the Switch will release next week. I'm making a screen capture on the screen, to make a record of the poll opinion before the launch.

Now, can someone tell me what are the estimates for FIFA 18's first week sales? I'd like to add that in the main post.

Skyrim no contest.

THe fans of that kind of game are already there because of Zelda.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I can't believe people actually voted for Fifa.

First week of FIFA 18 sales added to the OP. Now we wait for news about Skirim's first week sales.
