Forums - Politics Discussion - North Korea launches missile that flies over Japan, Jp Prime Minister reacts

Also we don't have to nuke NK to destroy them we would just drop MOABs on them, if we do use nukes then we would start WW3. Also China and Russia won't start WW3 over a puppet state, that's why the best solution is to convince them to overthrow the NK regime together and destroy their nuclear program.

While China and Russia won't start World War 3 because of North Korea, they sure as hell won't stay neutral if the US acts as the aggressor. They really really don't want a unified Korea under NATO flag, because that way the west would have a border to these states. They just won't let that happen. They won't declare war to the US, but they will heavily support North Korean forces with weapons, soldiers and supplies. Which will result in exactly what happened in the 50s. A stalemate with endless fighting and way too many victims.

If the US drops a nuke, World War 3 is upon us, because there will be direct consequences of such a bomb for china and russia.

Its never worth the cost of life. That said, letting this idiot continue to build and advance his military when he has shown tima and time again that he isnt stable is not an option either. Between NATO, the US, S.Korea and Japan, we could attack the North with so much force it would fold within days. Do you really think that the troops of N Korea have the resources to last very long in battle? Just because they have all of theose weapons doesnt mean that they can use them all at once. side from that, attacking all of Kims main locations and missle locations would dramatically incapacitate them. If Kim happens to die in the initial attack, the country collapses.

It'd be like Iraq I assume, the military will collapse pretty quickly, but then militias and guerrilla movements will form and combat in a drawn-out battle.

I dont think that would happen in NK. In Iraq you had a leader in Saddam that kept the two religious sides apart for the most part and did a good job of controlling them. With Saddam gone, the two religious sides then went to war with each other and all hell broke loose. In NK you have a leader who squanders his peoples food and money on missles, treats his people and troops like crap and keeps most of them in the dark when it comes to anything outside of his country. I think once the actual war starts and Kim is killed you will have a vast majority in that country who are ok with combining the Koreas and elevating their way of life.  To my knowledge religion doesnt play into this at all which makes it a much easier situation.

Problem with this view is that people thought the same thing when the Taliban, Saddam and Ghaddafi were the targets it's only after when people saw what these lot were suppressing when they realized just how much of a bad idea it was going to war with these lot. The's a reason they say better the devil you know as you don't know who will come after and the past 15 years have been a prime example of that, I wouldn't count out there being militant groups or some next nutter to take Kim's place if he is removed.

North Korea apparently tested a hydrogen bomb yesterday causing a massive earthquake like seismic event.

Don't think there is much of a solution here, North Korea basically has the upper hand in any negotiations now.

Read about that if true then yeah they have an upper hand as any hostility to them can result in a disastrous retaliation, North Korea has now become the modern day Middle Eastern Question.

North Korea seems to be growing more quickly than most estimates assume.

I think they have a faint hope of pulling a North Vietnam (with Chinese and Russian help) one day, when or if developed economies go through a significant period of stagnation or secession and have their hands tied with more pressing matters.

It's too late for that, South Korea is about to reach 'ultra-developed' status ... (nominal per capita GDP of $40000+ USDs)

Russia is on a decline (South Korea alone could give Russia a good run for it's money) and China does not want to risk facing sanctions for helping a beligerent North Korea ...

North Korea should ask for mercy since South Korea could kill all of it's citizens in just a month ...

Their goal is to force the West to have to accept them and eventually come to a more beneficial relationship. And it looks to be working to be honest. There is not real feasible solution here but to compromise with North Korea now and incentivize them to play ball, and that only happens if the Kim dynasty stays and they get several other things that they want.
