Forums - Gaming Discussion - DigitalFoundry : [4K] Rise of the Tomb Raider: Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro First Look

Baiting mods typically doesn't work out.

On Topic: XB1X definitely has better textures. Can't really compared the resolutions as I'm on my phone, but I'm certain 50% more teraflops is doing something to increase the gap. Over all, though, I'm not sure it's worth getting an X. I've already got a PC, so I'd be better off buying a 1080ti.

This is blatantly true!

Fixed that for you, we all know the xbox one x is a beast and you would need a computer from nasa to compete with it.

I don't know why this was moderated. As an employee at NASA I can confirm. In fact, we are working with Microsoft to replace every PC with an Xbox One X, since it offers similar performance to our PCs, but for a fraction of the cost!

Good thing then that the comparison is very different, since the PC video you linked has the game maxed out in every possible option while running at 4k, versus the Xbox One X version which not only doesn't have the same amount of detail, but also has three different modes specifically for what you want(4k mode, framerate mode, details mode) - by comparison there isn't seperate modes on the PC because it's maxing out ever single thing on screen, the details, the resolution, and the framerate at said details and resolution. As much as I can understand that the X is a great value for console gamers, it's a bit disingenous to say that it rekts PCs like a lot of people seem to be implying. Yes, that PC is having a hard time running it at 4k above 30 fps ... but it's still getting better framerate than the 4k version on the X, and it's maxing out every possible setting.

Plus, this is anecdotal evidence but, the Tomb Raider port is good to pretty good on PC, not great. I've played games that looked better than it and got consistently above 60 fps on max settings, whereas playing Rise of the Tomb  Raider would give me 55-75 fps consistently, and occasionally dip below that.

Also...wouldn't most 4k gamers on PC be using ... a 1080Ti? Not a 1080?

You dont have proof, even at lower settinsg the 1000+ dollar PC will get rekt, its pretty obvious if you watch the video

I don't have proof of...? What? That comment covered a lot of ground. Furthermore, the PC version was running max everything, and getting 35-44fps in that video, which is already way better than the XBX version, where you have to choose framerate mode, 4k mode, or details mode(Digital Foundry said this).

The fact that you actually think a 1000$ PC would be beat by an Xbox One X is silly. No one is denying the XBX is a good deal, so I don't know why you are dead set on trying to outclass a PC. Furthermore, your use of "rekt" exposes your true intentions on this site. Your previous posts were just basic enough to play the innocent card, but its clear you either want to troll or hate on PC. If you dont like PC then thats fine, just dont talk about it. I honestly dont get why you haven't been banned, you are almost as bad as Snoopy

there is a visual increase but runnong on a 4k TV its not the difference worth buying a new console for. its only a slight upgeade akin to adjusting a few PC setting equivilant. game is identical

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

The three onboard Honeywell-built flight computers each run on two IBM PowerPC 750X single-core processors—dinosaur chips that have been around since 2002, and were used in Apple computers until the company switched to Intel chips in 2006.

Kinda sad you only need a NASA computer to beat the XBox One X.

Nothing special, this is just a re-balance graphics setting for the Xbox One X making perfected visuals & 4K textures together.(I'm referring to enriched visuals mode)

The PS4 has 4K resolution mode, it increases higher textures BUT it sacrifices visuals(or details) such as tessellation, pure hair, lighting etc etc etc.

Edit: UGH!!!!

Lol ... I don't know what you were going for with your comment so i can't respond xD

My guess (from these screens) is that the biggest improvements would be in framerates.

Yeah I know. Xbox One X users must be tickled pink though. It is the closest a console has gotten to matching a PC in 12 years.

One thing I love about the mid-generation boost from the Playstation 4 Pro and Xbox One X is the baseline sits a little higher which benefits the PC side as well.

No it doesnt, all what PS4 Pro and XBOX are getting are the higher settings from PC versions, the games still are getting devoloped and released for PS4 and the OG XOne. The PS4 Pro pretty much is matching highend PCs and so did the PS4 before during its time etc.

I won't go to indepth on this reply as CGI has already refuted your statement.

The fact that games are still being developed for the base Playstation 4/Xbox One has absolutely nothing to do with hardware power of the Xbox One X and doesn't refute my statement.

Wow, even at max settings the pc version of rise of the tomb raider stands no chance against the xbox one x version. I guess it's true, the 1080 gtx can't outdo the xbox one x.

The Geforce 1080, 1080Ti, Titan are significant improvements over the Xbox One X.
The Xbox One X's GPU has more in common with Polaris/Radeon RX 580, which is a competitor against the Geforce 1060.

Where the Xbox One X's GPU starts to deviate is with it's memory controller... It results in a worst-case scenario with it's bandwidth dropping to 218GB/s where-as the Radeon RX 580's is 256GB/s.
But because it's a console... Developers understand and are focused on the fixed hardware, so one would assume that a Dev could obtain the full 326GB/s of bandwidth more often than not.

Then you have the improvements done to the command processor on top of it.

In short, the Xbox One X is probably sitting between a Geforce 1060 and Geforce 1070 in terms of performance.
