Microsoft closes the door on the original Xbox One

The original Xbox One will go down as another example of how Microsoft grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory, going from the most popular console of the last generation to selling only half as much as the PlayStation 4.

It is therefore not with much sadness we bid farewell to the device, as Microsoft cease sales of the console in the US, according to Kotaku.

Only the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X are currently visible on Microsoft’s website in US, and in UK the VCR-sized device is marked as Sold Out.

The failure of the original Xbox One launch was largely laid at the feet of Microsoft forgetting gaming consoles were for gamers, with their victory in the last generation leaving them so complacent that they believed they could focus on home entertainment first. With the Xbox One X Microsoft hoped to wipe out this reputation by releasing the most powerful gaming console, and with the device already having “recording-setting” sales, maybe this time Microsoft will get it right.

Some of the things you posted aren't in the article?

That's not in the article

Either way there's no point in pretending like this a sting to Microsoft. Don't know why the article sounds so pessimistic. It doesn't really matter, just like it wouldn't matter if only PS4 slim's were being sold. Microsoft "not selling" the Xbox One OG has more to do with the fact that it doesn't make sense selling it. The article makes it seem like a sting to Microsoft's arse, but it only makes sense to only sell your two most impressive units.

Way to spin it for click baits.

The Xbox One as a platform will continue to exist.

The old, slow, power hungry console has simply been replaced by the newer, smaller, more energy efficient, faster S console. - That is generally what happens you know.

Could we change the title to something such as "Original Xbox One model discontinued"? Thanks.

Also, I don't understand why the article is so pessimistic. Xbox One clearly isn't a runaway success, but it's still doing decent. The original model is bulky and useless, especially with the One S existing.

garbage article in all honesty. This isn't even hurting Microsoft lol. It'll just help them wipe out any sort of production that remained for it

...hmm...

Look what you made Microsoft do

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Took me a second to realise what was meant by the title. I was like wtf until I realised oh yeah makes sense with the original model, I mean do Sony even make the original PS4 model anymore? If they do I feel like it's a very minor amount compared to the slim and pro.

Please change the header to Xbox One phat/Model 1 discontinued.
