Maybe it's the lack of a actual nose, or the fact the sun always reflects in the same spots on there eyes, or the lack of pupils, or the lack of lower eyelashes and lower eyelids, or may be even the fact that there hair mostly are made of clumps than actual strands and how that is essentially shaded (by which I mean in entire clumps sharing the same shade instead of strands having different shades giving a 3d effect to the hair, like it's layered instead of drawn)  I'm gonna say yeah, the main protagonists look anime.

The sad part is when you realise that Nomura's characters look better... Excuse me while I throw up in my mouth.

Certainly a tall order to acomplish, given that Nomura art style is excellent.

Yeah.... Lol.

Or you know.... the bar got set unusually low. Either way.

Whats funny? As far as I know, KH is beloved, including its charachters.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

The tall order part was pretty funny.

Well, Nomura was responsible for the charachter art that range from FF 4 through FF 10, if not of more entries. Also responsible for Dissidia and many more games.I dont see anyone thinking that his legacy and art prowess is mediocre. But I shouldnt expect something different from someone who thinks that XCX charachter art direction is better than XC 2.

Hmmm, no. Nomura did the character design for FF VII, VIII, X, XIII, and XV.

FF I through VI and IX was Yoshitaka Amano.

Wasnt he lead charachter designer since FF IV?Maybe Im getting it wrong and he had minor roles back then.

anyways, thanks for the correction.I was convinced that he was involved more deeply with more FF entries for some reason.

Beyond that, you are saying it was a tall order for a professional (Nomura) in video game character creation

To beat an amatuer in video game creation, but a professional in anime character design  Masatsugu Saito.

I don't even really like Nomura's work outside Kingdom Hearts and I can give him enough respect as a professional to say there is an easily recognizable difference in their work. It wasn't a tall order for Nomura.

I think you have it backwards?  I believe he meant it was a tall order to ask Saito to measure up to Nomura.

Personally, I don't mind the character designs.  Just like I didn't mind them in XCX and XC1.  In both those games the in game appearances were a bit of a mixed bag with some characters coming out better than others, which is ultimately par for the course when taking anime concept art and translating it to 3D art.  You know, unless you're Dragon Quest :P

Well yeah, Dragon Quest nailed it. All I'm saying is there is an easily recognizable difference in quality (and yes, it was a tall order for Saito, he did have it backwards that's why it was funny).

I never said that Saito wasnt a capable person, its just that in terms of designing carachters, and at least in the videogame industry of which is the industry I know well, Nomura is one of the most respected and have designed alot of the most recognizable carachters in the industry.Cloud, Tifa, Tidus, Sora and more that Im forgetting right now, are all his work.Saito may be up for the job, but given Nomura pedigree, it is a tall order one way or another.

One thing is not liking his style, which is perfectly normal. But saying that his design is vomit inducing, the legacy of a man like Nomura, is forcing it to say the least.
