Wow, that Switch drop.

In other news, that DQ has stronger legs on 3DS (4.1% of total sales this week) than on PS4 (3.8% of total) comes as a surprise for me. Usually the older platform with higher install base shows higher initial sales bad worse legs. Strange. So more 3DS-owners held out and bought the game later than PS4-owners.

Not that much really.

yes it's an ageing system, but handheld games generally have bigger legs in Japan. And console RPG's are a type of game that are typically very frontloaded.

Nintendo - 57,024 (58.8%)
Sony - 39,975 (41.1%)
Microsoft - 100 (0.1%)

Nintendo continues to slay the software and hardware chart!

But dang! That 1mil Splatoon 2 sales will be on hold.

But Yay! Arms reached 200k! The legs of this game is doing decent! Not the 10k+ Splatoon 1 did on the Wii U, but good enough.

I think you will find that the software sales are much closer once you include digital sales. For example, in June, 48% of PS's software sales were digital.

Overall, in June, Nintendo's systems had 52% of the marketshare vs Sony's systems' 48%.

Welp, I guess the Switch's stock is dead (again). Good PS4 sales, hopefully the console's baseline is around 30k.

wait what..... 35k PS4's to 22k Switches?

Nintendo get your stock issues under controll already ; _ ;

They're saving units for next week.

There are probably more people who bought the PS4 version digitally though.

Indeed, Square already pointed in that direction. But I talked about percentages, and as both are only physical it shows a somewhat slower legs on PS4 - which surprises me. Both are well established platforms with high install base, both should have high initial sales and sharp dropoffs. Legs are either word of mouth or new owners of the console getting the game. Also picking up the game on special occasions, like holidays. As both sell the same amount of new units and userbase is for both pretty much established, better legs must be better word of mouth. Or a statistical hiccup for one week. Who knows, we'll see.

Well, one platform's install base is 4 times the other. I would say PS4 owners are more likely to buy digital versions which decreases the number of people buying it physically.

Except you want to tell me that the percentage of buyers this week of total totally differs digital and physical this changes nothing about my calculation on the legs of the games on different platforms. To explain more: I don't talk about absolute numbers, I talk about which percentage of customers bought the game first week and which part bought it later. How much bought the game at all is irrelevant for this. Better or worse legs can be seen for well-received games as well as for niche games.

Famitsu & Dengeki up. Also I've updated the threads from the last 4 weeks with the data. Apologies for slacking - I just don't have the same time that I used to for this kinda stuff!

We're talking about a very small difference though. They're selling pretty evenly in the legs department (PS4 version had better legs than 3DS version this week in Famitsu)
