Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your unpopular/controversial gaming opinions

So straightfoward thread, what are your unpopular opinions in games in general?

Here are a few of mine:

Dead Rising 4 is a good game, and better than Dead Rising 3. Getting rid of the timer was a good move.

Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012 was a great game and spiritual successor to burnout, and is better than Most Wanted 2005.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is drab, soulless, and generic fantasy game, with no personality. Skyrim destroys it in almost every way possible.

Pokemon Platinum is the best Pokemon game (followed closely by sun/moon)

Black Ops 2 is the best COD game.

singleplayer > multiplayer (unless its couch co-op or splitscreen)

I fucking hate the annoying 50's fallout music.

Farcry 4 has a better story and villain than farcry 3, and is a better game in general.

Xbox One S is the best slim revision of a console ever. No more power brick (its inside the console), HDR, 4k streaming, 4k bluray, revamped controller, and it doesnt look like a 1980's vcr anymore, and instead looks quite sexy in white (I'm not saying its the best console ever; far from it, infact)

I dont hate EA. Yes, they have their good share of fuck-ups, but they come out with quality titles every now and then.

I absolutely hate Activision. They drove Crash, Spyro into the ground after the PS1 era with title after milked title.  Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 was rushed and broken (heck, the disc only had the demo, you needed to download the whole game ffs). Guitar Hero Live is riddled with micro-transactions (you cant own songs, you have to rent them lmao). Starting from COD ghosts they started adding a lot of microtransactions like supply drops, had overly priced map and gun packs. They crossed the linw with Infinite warfare however: Cod MWR could only be received in an 80 dollar bundle with Infinite Warfare. And the one dlc map pack COD4 had back in the day was re-sold as paid dlc for 15 bucks. A 4 MAP PACK RELEASED 10 YEARS AGO FOR 15 BUCKS. And Just kow, they released MWR standalone for not 20 bucks, but double that. And the standalone remaster is exclusive to PS4. Like, are you kidding me? The microtransactions issue is also present in Destiny. A bare-bones shooter that was very underwhelming. Sure it got better as time went on, but it was extremly costly for early adopters: 170 dollars to get the full experience, as opposed to 60 dollars when the full edition launched. and I agree, Destiny 2 looks does look like Destiny 1.5, with minimal changes. Activision also does shovelware movie/tvv tie-ins (ABC Wipeout, TMNT, Korra, Spiderman), which I hate too. They also closed one of my most favourite studios, Bizzare Creations (Project Gotham Racing, Blur) as well as prototype devs, along with many other studios. I havent bought an Activision game since Black Ops 2 (which admittedly, was a great game, albeit their last great game).

edit: The Xbox 360 is a vastly superior console than the PS3.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

All video games suck.

Oh fuck hold up I need to get on my computer for this

Wait, that's controversial?

Anyways, my most controversial opinion is that Super Mario 64 has actually aged well, and it is and always has been better than Ocarina of Time.

Well, this is one that's becoming increasingly controversial for some reason, but mine is that the PS1 > N64. The N64 just can't keep up with the sheer number of releases that the PS1 had.

I use to hate Activision like nobody else; I could never forgive them what they did to Bungie. But EA ruining Mass Effect has to top it for me - my favourite gaming franchise ended because it didn't make them enough money. Sigh*

OT: Xbox is better than Playstation.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Maybe you are right and it isnt controversial, but from what I've seen there is so much hate towards EA/Ubisoft, while not much of anything against Activision.

OoT is just a 7 out of 10.

On that note, I use the 1-10 scale in its entirety. So no, an average game is not a 7.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

As time passes, the number of games that people use to reflect on a console's library decreases. While the PS1's library was judged at the time to be better than the N64's by the mass market because the PS1 had eight times as many games, the N64 has steadily gotten more popular because its best games are on par with (or even better than) the PS1's best games.

It's the same with the Saturn, GameCube, and Dreamcast, which all are looked upon much more fondly than their sales would predict relative to the PS1 and PS2.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star was a decent enough game.

Wind Waker is not as good as its N64 predecessors or Twilight Princess.

Certain beloved series such as Star Fox and Mega Man should not have any big new installments, at least if they don't introduce something new.

Shadow from the Sonic series is a decent character.

Bioshock isn't that great. And the twist lacked any real punch.

Love and tolerate.
