Adaptation

Not really. Set in a different country all together. Much closer to a remake than adaptation. I don't think they were ever trying to be remain very faithful to the original work.

I love myself some cheesy shitty action movies. So, I've read the manga, I've seen some of the anime. After I finish the anime, and the Japanese films, I'll check this out.



It's okay for an adaption to deviate a little from the source material; the anime of Death Note diverges from the manga, and the Japanese live action films diverge again, yet they retain the essence of what made the story great.

Judging from the trailer though, this one seems to have made a clean break from the core stengths of the original.
