Forums - Sony Discussion - Yakuza Kiwama review scores. (83 Metacritic, 84 Opencritic)

I'm so excited to properly play it, first time I did was on an emulator on my weak ass laptop and with english VA which was not very good to say the least.

I often wonder how these games don't score a bit higher, but it's personal preference in the end, and I'm a huge Yakuza fanboy. Still, a few extra metacritic bleep-blorps would be nice. Really curious about this one since I've only played the 3 PS3 games. It looked freaking amazing from the vids I saw, but wondering how different it will be from the original, which from what I've read, is a slightly different formula from the 3, 4, and 5. Is it revamped to be more like the the Gen 7 games, or is it more faithful to the gen 6 games I never played? My understanding is that in terms of gameplay, the combat is main change between the 2 gens.

Angry Joe's review sums up pretty well why it doesn't get scored higher. Comparisons to stuff like GTA.

Kinda sad

I'm buying it, but I feel like these games are reviewed by Yakuza fans.

I'm playing my 6th Yakuza game and this series doesn't do much to keep it fresh. I keep playing them because it scratches an itch I don't get in other games.

Will every person reviewing the Seventh iteration of Forza (for example) will be a fan?

These games are reviewing great because they are really good games bro.

Hmm. I typically don't go after games with less than an 85MC unless the game just speaks to me. And with no prior association with the series, I have trouble pushing myself to get it.

Is this a joke lol?

I've never decided on games with those criteria myself. For me, price is a huge factor. I'll probably end up getting this eventually.

Ah, that was the original game. It actually looked pretty fun from what I saw my brother playing, I'll probably play that before Kiwami.

I was talking about the beginning of his review where he lays out all the negatives right away. Most of them are problems you'd only have with the game if you were an average western consumer. His review was actually pretty positive

Pre-ordered it a few months back, so you bet

That's not a good way to go about it imo.
An 85 for a story driven game means something very different than an 85 for a FIFA/Madden game.
Of course most gamers know what a FIFA/Madden game is like, but when you don't really know what the game is like, that's when you should read or watch a review. And I reckon you can't know what Yakuza is like without investing some time in finding out, because there's really nothing else like it on the market.

A 75 review for a different type of game you've never played can sound much more interesting than a 90 review for a rehash of a franchise you've played to death.

I know. I was just sharing a funny clip.

Oops sorry, I misunderstood. Lol, those segments are legendary xD

The third gif. What is that from? Yakuza 6?

That's Yakuza 5.
Yakuza 6 uses a new more graphically advanced engine.

I played Yakuza 5 for 180 hours and never entered into combat with Haruka. I was wondering, because that's def her primary Yakuza 5 outfit. I don't get it. lol. I did just find this "Haruka Hack" video, but aside from the title, it offers no explanation as to where it's from. Is this a hack? Or did I somehow miss substory? Like in the gif, all her moves in the video are culled from the other 4 characters.
