Forums - Gaming Discussion - What was the last new gaming franchise you tried and why?

Splatoon. Why? Because I feel like the FPS market is getting stale and too "samey". But that goes for the entire industry imo. The innovative wild west days of the late 70's though the late 90's are long, long gone. I haven't gotten the same feeling I got from OOT back when it launched since the PS2 era. Games are just little refinement on top of little refinement. I don't know if we'll ever see that same level of creativity again... which is kind of sad.

Uhhhh...hmmm..uh... Crash Bandicoot? I haven't played much of it but it's cool i guess

Metal Gear Solid. I played MGS 3 like a year ago and loved it so much that it is now one of my all time favorite games. Then I decided to play MGS 5 and I hate that game so much that it single handedly destroyed the goodwill I had towards the series. Gonna have to play MGS 2 and finish Peacewalker to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Fire Emblem.

The last one I tried to get into was Senran Kagura. It's fun but it's a bit lacking, and I definitely see why Senran Kagura 2 should've been put on a more powerful platform.

Then, I have A-Train (for the 3DS) which I sank at least 200 hours into...

Tales of Berseria, really wanted to get into the Tales of series and Berseria was an amazing game, definitely made me interested in the previous ones and I'm gonna play them for sure.

Last new franchise eh? I had to look at my profile to say for sure. I guess it would be the Neptunia series. I've only played 2 non-canon games. Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed, and Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection. I kind of fell in love with overall style. The characters and writing. Especially the humor. It's lighthearted and unique to anything else I've played. Never finished Producing perfection because my memory card died. Eventually going to start the main games.

Yakuza. I just needed something to play on PS4 and over the years heard so much good stuff. I finally dove in because it was a prequel. Boy, I wish I played this series earlier. I have Kiwami pre-ordered and pre-ordered that CE of Yakuza 6.

That's somewhat surprising, given your affinity towards Sega, the fact it's been running for 12 years, and during that timeframe it's arguably the best franchise in their portfolio.

I'm getting into Nier series with Nier Automata. I bought the game because its trailers looked awesome and after it released I kept hearing about how it has an amazing story, characters and music, with fun combat. Also, I really like the characters designs (and it's not for the wrong reasons :p). So far I'm loving the game (I'm playing through Route B), it's a really unique experience and I heard the story gets  more insane by the end, so I can't wait to get to that part :p. Maybe someday I will play the first game but it's kinda hard to find.

I didn't have a PS2 when it launched and got one in 2011. My PS3 in 2012. I almost picked up 4 back then but it seemed it was so deep in the series I would be lost and the PS2 games were expensive so I figured I missed the boat. 0 being a prequel was a revilation.
