Forums - PC Discussion - Age of Empires 4 coming to Windows 10

Nice. Loved the first two back in the day, didn't play much of the third because I was more into Age of Mythology though. A friend and me are in dire need for a good new thing to play multiplayer casually, will certainly be kerping my eye on it.

So, I've been thinking about where this new Age of Empires could be set, and I found this on the net from when AoE III launched:

Mind you, that was Ensemble's plan, but do you think it's possible that MSoft/Relic will keep that?

Yeah I remember that image in the AOE 3 Manual.

But if the reveal trailer is any indication it looks like AOE4 will be set in both the ancient era of AOE1, and the medieval era of AOE 2.

Also AoE3. I wouldn't mind if the 4th game just combines the first 3.

Too good to be true.

Yep. As of now I'm expecting just complete shit that's also exclusive to the Windows 10 store.

Whoop, finally. Hoping that it is as good as AOE2 with modern 4k visuals.

A combo would suck IMO. Unless you spend no more than 5 mins in an age-AOE2,4 ages, generally 45 mins to imperial age in a random game. Imagine if you had a longer time period to cover...

I hope they pick an age and stick to it. I expect modern/future stuff.

But it doesn't need to be that way, at least for the story missions. In those, you start a mission in one era and evolve until you hit a max level and, as you progress the story mode and unlock new missions, your initial era is moved forward, as is your final era. That way you can have all the AoE I, I & III eras in one game without making it a chore.

As for escenarios or multiplayer games, you should be able to select which era you want to start and finish. Problem solved.

But I don't expect them to do that, too much work. They'd simplify things and cut off some eras.

What's with that entire gen point? They changed their strategy only last year and it is definitely obvious that now they are very PC-focused. For example, yesterday at gamescom they've been talking about Forza 7 and how great it will play on PC and that it is the best version of the game and almost nothing was said about how great it plays on Xbox One X - their new console. It seems to me that they gave up on Xbox in Europe and will try to push PC here. The only region where Xbox consoles will be marketed really well is US as it seems right now.

Rise of Nations: Extended Cut. This game will have cross-play between Windows Store and Steam. And I can bet that there will be more of them to come.

Because the gen point is about how they support both their console and the PC side. They only recently decided to support PC gaming when their Xbox side took blows since the start of 8th gen, had things gone their way they would have continued ingoring their PC side like they ended up doing during 7th gen.

They've had since 2013 to change their stratagem for PC, but like I said before, they only did so because their Xbox side wasn't doing so well and seeing how Steam was still growing and gaining more consumers, while Origin was also growing and GoG as well.

I'm not sure how marketing will say it's the "best" version, we'll have to wait and see which advert appears on TV that tells it so, but I imagine it will be the typical X1X advert instead of the Windows 10 version.

Ah so one game, they had chances to go back on all the other games out thus far and only decided to roll with one of the less popular RTS games (compared to AoE, C&C, SC, Supreme Comm and Civ, RoN is the smaller game like it or not). I hope that by "more to come", we get a an aboslute landslide of crossplay supported titles and even those before the "change" in strategy. Like last gen, I'll hold MS's word to that and it better be 110% next year and every other year.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see
