Forums - Sales Discussion - Sonic Mania is the top selling game in the UK Claim sega

"Sonic Mania would have been No.1 in the UK charts if digital data was counted by 'quite some margin'"

Sega are saying that Sonic Mania would easily be number one of the UK game charts if digital downloads were included in the numbers.  Personally I think it's a great game and wish it all the best.

does make me wish Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft released their digital sales numbers though.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

"If"...

Sega should have released it physically.

...Ok?

I'm glad the game is doing good but it's their fault for not releasing ANY physical release. Anyways, it's cool to see platformers do well this year ^_^

Well, if you had releaswed a retail version, then it would be nº1. It's not too late, a lot of people are waiting for a physical version.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If the game is top selling via Digital than its the top selling game. This is why sales figures this gen don't make any sense anymore. Bundles and Digital sales have made it too hard to keep track of.
At the end of the day, if Sega is right and Sonic has sold more copies (Digital or Physical) than its the top selling game in the UK.

Wouldn't that mean Sega would have to know all the digital numbers for the other games as well?

Pretty much, it's a weird to make a claim on digital sales when they don't know Crash's digital sales.

Oh, Sega.

Honestly, I don't get why there isn't a physical release...

I think it's because in Sega's eyes, this game was a bit of a gamble.  They are letting fans make a game that is very different to the direct they have taken Sonic.  Even though most of us thought this would sell like hot cakes, Sega might not have been as sure.

Thankfully it looks like it is doing very well (top of the Switch eshop) so you never know, they might do a retail version.

Well maybe Sega should have given it a physical release then. I mean there were physical collectors editions that didn't include the game (aside from a dl code), for crying out loud. At least do a limited run.

That's no excuse when Disgae 5 is well stocked in multiple stores i've been to(I'm not hating on you just pointing out that Sega should have made a physical release)
