Forums - Gaming Discussion - Things you ALWAYS do in new games?

IMO, going to the settings menu (if the game has one, which is 99% of modern games these days) and tweaking with everything is absolutely mandatory.

People who just press New Game without doing anything else is just absolutely maddening to me.

Put it on easy. I also take a look at the achievements to see the easy ones that i can earn.

Check for a playtime clock...I'm looking at you Zelda BOTW...

Usually I increase the difficulty and if the game has audio options I change that as well.

You change the language to spanish?

I usually check all the menus/ try all the buttons on my character to see what I'm able to do in the game. I like to get a feel for it before I start the actual game.

Oh yeah, if there's a language option, I check to see if it has Japanese, haha.

Well not a lot of games have that, it's mostly between japanese and english.

1. Curse at the day 1 patch, wait for it to download and install (ie play/watch something else)
2. Curse at the loading times and unskippable splash screens.
3. Find the settings/options, Curse at the lack of smooth turning / free movement if missing (VR)
4. Furiously tap the x button during the unskippable intro sequence.
5. Die, better to find out first what the death penalty is.

Check a trophy guide to see how hard the platinum is, time it would take, and how many bullshit, missable and glitched trophies there are. Other than that check the controls, make sure sensitivity is ok, and sometimes turn on subtitles.

Look at the graphics settings.
Jump / roll.
Try to kill NPCs.
Try to kill myself.
Try to break the game.
