Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony wont allow ARK devs to have crossplay between PSN and Xbox Live.

I don't understand why people are kissing Microsoft's butt. The only reason they want crossplay is because they are losing. They blocked crossplay with every platform up until Rocket League in 2016.

Sony supported it for every platform while Microsoft blocked it. Now it seems they're telling Microsoft to get lost.

Judging by the circumstances I don't blame them. Microsoft thought they could do a 180 when it benefited them. I also don't want crossplay to be a mandatory thing going forward.

Who gives a crap if a company is winning or loosing right now.

Crossplay needs to happen. Nintendo allows it. PC allows it. Microsoft allows it. Mobile allows it.
Sony doesn't.

What developers should do is only provide updates, patches and dlc to platforms that support Cross-play. Like how Minecraft on the PS4 won't get the 4K texture pack, but the other consoles will.

Minecraft is getting the 4k treatment on Playstation 4. It will be just happening later as it needs to be a different version of the game.

Which is ultimately the crux of the issue.

Minecraft on the PC, Xbox, Switch, Mobile will be getting the same content and updates at roughly the same time. - The Playstation 4 will lag behind everyone else as it will be a different fork.
And that's Sony's own fault and deserve to be criticised.

MS were rightly critized for blocking crossplay before, wouldn't you agree that it is highly hypocritical of both MS and Sony now to have the roles reversed?

This. Everyone criticised Microsoft for not embracing Cross-play back in the day.

Now it's Sony's turn. And they deserve the criticism for being for being stuck in the past in this aspect.

Sure, now all over sudden the business aspect has become irrelevant. Quite a few oppurtunists in this thread.

No, they don't. Because in contrast to Microsoft they are doing a good job in advancing the medium in many ways. MS is as useful as hole in the head in this industry. No need to support (by a rival company of all things) their laziness and damaging actions and encourage them in continuing in the same manner. They're paying the penalty for what they've done the past 1 1/2 decades (and continue doing) and that is a good thing.

Hunting Season is done...

Good guy Sony protecting their exclusive right so they can more exclusive while they exclusive. Exclusiveness is the best thing that ever happened to gaming. It's so great.

I miss it when each version of the same game had drastic differences depending on which console/handheld/computer you played it on. It gave an actual reason to collect the various versions of a game.

Microsoft just want's crossplay because their own playerbase can't support the game, why should Sony just give in? This isn't about Sony being dicks, this is about business tactics to get rid of your competitors.

Since when having gamers become businessmen? Do we seriously care about what is best for Sony or Microsoft's wallet? This is something Microsoft was rightly criticized for, so why should it be different this time?

Yes we do care what it's best for our favourite company because the better they do financially, the more games they can fund. The more risks they can take and in the end we are getting more of what we love.

There is a very logical reason why console wars are a thing, and this is it.

They gave Sony nothing last gen....so they get nothing this gen. Microsoft was more aggressive last gen. Phil SPencer playing nice guy wont save them. Devs dont care about the battle, but console makers do. It might be a pro consumer move, but with that move they lose their chips.

I don't see why it's such a hot topic these days. Last gen neither one allowed cross-play, people grumbled a bit and moved on.

Man why are people still defending Sony? People are just too into console wars.

Proud to be a Californian.

MS: I want to become friends with you sony.

Sony : I hate you.

And it was the opposite last gen.

Having the most popular network is important to atract circles of friends and sales. Allowing cross play is in the interest of the loser but not the winner.

No point pressuring about this. It makes perfect business sense for Sony.

It's a hard thing to do to make anyone in first place concede something that could benefit a competitor. I understand why Xbox didn't do it last gen, and I understand why PlayStation does it this gen.

That being said, I'm not in favour of Sony's behavior on this. They could easily compromise if they wanted to. If they fall to second or third place next gen, will they change their stance on this? And should Nintendo or Microsoft even entertain the idea?
