Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Majority Of Switch Owners Prefer To Play At Home

Yes my bed and the toillette are still my home.
Most of the people are playing portable but at home. Thats why i never understood when people said:"but i will never play in the bus". Thats not what it is about. It is about playing everywhere in your home.

I have no intention to every take my Switch out of my house, For a start it way to big to carry around in your pocket and that is with some fairly big deep pocket jeans it's just uncomfortable and still the top joycon peeps out.

Trousers aren't the only things with pockets. The Switch fits in most jacket/coat pockets and if you want to use it on bus/train rides to work/school, you probably also have a some kind of bag with you, where is some space for the Switch.

I'm pretty sure that Switch's OS records time spent in docked or undocked mode and I bet those statistics are sent to Nintendo. The poll was made more to see if those Switches ever leave home, than if users prefer docked or undocked mode, as Switch cannot check physical location of the device.

If the poll wants to know, if those Switches ever leave home, they should ask that question instead of asking for favorites.

"Do you use your Switch only at home or also elsewhere?"

  • I only use it at home
  • I mostly use it at home and rarely elsewhere
  • I often use it elsewhere
  • I only use it outside of my home

And of course the Switch could check and log the time spend without access to the primary/default/home WLAN and the time with access to different WLANs.

Something like this for a 1000 hours total playtime:

  • 400 hours docked with access to primary WLAN
  • 200 hours undocked with access to primary WLAN (at home in handheld mode)
  • 250 hours undocked without WLAN access (f.e. playing in a bus/train/plane/park/beach)
  • 100 hours undocked with access to a different WLAN (f.e. playing at StarBucks, in a hotel room)
  • 50 hours docked with access to a different WLAN (f.e. playing at a friends TV)

Maybe I'm ignorant because I don't own a Switch, but who would actually prefer to use it somewhere else than home? Isn't home the best place to play it (unless, for example, you like to use your friend's bigger TV for it)? I'm sure it can improve commuting by quite a bit, but I would imagine home to be the best place anyway.

I'll admit I have played it a mix of both, though with Splatoon 2 I've done more on T.V play because it seems to get a more consistent signal

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

We're still going with that?

Why not? I don't mind the Switch as it is though.

At the end of the day it is what it is, but in the US and my personal preference I agree they should have made it at least on par with the other 8th gen consoles. It's stopping me from buying one that far more powerful systems are out and cheaper.

If they would have just made another console on par with the PS4 or Xbox One, then the same reasons why the Gamecube failed and the Xbox One is currently struggling would appear. The majority of consumers and publishers have already chosen PS4 as their primary system so aside from maybe simple conversion factors and Nintendo's own IP what would really sway people that may have already gotten a PS4 or Xbox One? Also probably the biggest reason is that in Japan, the home console market is weaker then it has ever been. For whatever reason, maybe lack of space or cellphones and computers just being more available and powerful, Japan prefers portable gaming.

So in order to temp developers and consumers to potentially double dip even if they already picked out another home console before, as well as to appeal to their own struggling domstic market you get a home / portable console hybrid.

This doesn;t seem like a well done poll. I figure most people don't go to beaches and airports enough for that to be a primary place to play, and if you're going to the beach, why would you spend it playing games..?

Nintendo should release a cut-down Switch TV. Clearly the majority of the Switch base has proven that would be appealing to allot of gamers.
