Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft wants Waggle

I love this paragraph from the MTV news posting

Microsoft's controller isn't just a response to "Wii Sports"; it's slightly more ambitious. "They want the usual assortment of 'Halo'/ 'Gears'/ 'Forza'/ whatever, just in waggle form," our source told us. Such idea-generation has not gone smoothly. "The whole thing is a colossal clusterf---," the source said. "[Microsoft] marketing just want it so they can match the Wii point for point. The biggest parts of their marketing materials outline how easy it would be for third parties to port their Wii games to the 360."

As for court challenge -- I they steal the concept, that's fine. But if they steal the technology, they are toast.

Funny that at the same time high-end firmware makers don't want to touch the Wii, the console manufacturers are trying to copy it. Sounds like disruption at work.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

First reaction lame. On the other hand if they do it right (i.e. copy it 100%) and are not stopped by patents it could really hurt the Wii.

Given the power difference between 360 and Wii a game port to the 360 could be done in weeks (perhaps they can write an emulator or something).

The price is almost the same and the 360 is just much better value. Media capabilities, hard-disc and the best game library. So it may be lame but it could be successful. (On the other hand I am pretty sure Nintendos legal department will be out for blood if its true)

Highly unlikely. Its peripheral and the 360's market for with the controller would be segmented. A segmented market is why add-ons almost always fail. Any developer making a Wii title knows that everyone with a console has a Wii-mote. Anyone developing for this X-mote wouldn't have 23 million potentional buyers, they'd be more likely to just develop a game with the standard controller in mind.

The reason casuals buy the wii is , because it has casual games. I do not think every M$ game is going to use this , and people are going to see it as a rip off of the actual thing. M$ probably will charge $100 for it anyway, so why would somebody buy a 360 , and the controller, when they could get both the controller , and the wii.
