Looks really ugly to be honest. It would've been graphically substandard on the Xbox 360, much less the Switch.

Its the overall polish that's impressive. 1080p, AA, stable frame rate, fairly detailed environments, etc.

You wouldn't get that polish on 7th gen machines, but Switch is still closer to 7th gen specs versus 8th gen.

When your base graphics are so poor, it leaves you lots of headroom for polish. Imagine this game had come out on PS3/360 six years ago, would people really have considered it visually impressive? Hell no, not on systems that were producing games like Uncharted 2/3, Gears of War 3, God of War 3, etc.

From this video, its evident the Switch is just slightly more powerful than the 3DS.

Two 3DS's duck-taped together, one would say.

Well this wasn't built on Switch as the lead platform, in spite of that it looks fine on Switch. Its not like they're using the exact same visual assets from 3DS either. So upgraded assets like much better textures and the polish makes it a nice looking game.

Look at it this way, nobody is arguing Uncharted Collection and Halo:MCC are the best looking 8th gen games. But the overall polish and 60 fps is pretty signficant versus their original 7th gen releases. The best way to play those games.

Another example, I'm playing Yakuza 0 and its evident PS3 was the lead platform. Yet it still looks great thanks to higher quality textures, AA, 1080p, and 60 fps. Its a very sharp presentation.

I understand the why of why it looks so dated, it's a port from a vastly weaker system. But that doesn't give it a free pass in my book. They shouldn't have even made this frankly, they should have either ported Monster Hunter World or made a ground-up Switch Monster Hunter instead.

Looks very pretty to me. The colors just jump at you, the draw distance is nice, the armor and weapons look very sharp.

I absolutely loved playing Monster Hunter on PSP/3DS and the Wii U gamepad. A larger screen, higher resolution, tons of content, and the ability to play with headphones on the go >>> Whatever flops, fps, and irrelevant crap. As long as the game runs fine (which it does), and I'm able to play online, COUNT ME IN.

I think that's pretty obvious, rendering at higher resolution would mean bigger battery wear and more heat (GPU would need to work at same clocks in portable mode like do in docked mode), and with downsampling 1080p picture on 6" 720p screen difrence would be minimal. So you will not see one single Switch game that downsampling 1080p resolution for portable mode.

Switch in portable mode doesn't run at the same clocks as in docked mode and I guess battery life is valid ...

I wouldnt take port of 3DS game like some measure of Switch possibilities, fact that MHXX for Switch is not 60 FPS doesn't mean Switch isn't cable to run that game at 60FPS, almost every other Switch game looks much better and most of them are 60fps.

This isn't just any port, it's a port with higher resolution textures and 16x anisotropic filtering which will spike bandwidth usage ...

Of Course that battery life point is valid in that case, and effect of downsampling 1080p picture on 6" 720p screen would be minimal in any case.

Doesnt relly matters, more accurate would be to call it remaster, but again thats remaster of 3DS game, not game that was build from ground for Switch hardware on mind, so hole my point still stands.

Just downloaded the demo and played a little in handheld mode, and have to say the experience is much better than on 3DS. It combines the best of both worlds from console MH and handheld MH, as we all expected. I have a Circle Pad Pro for my 3DS, and the controls still feel clunky and tedious even with the Circle Pad Pro, on Switch it is a very smooth experience, and the better image quality makes seeing things much easier. The graphics do feel more than a mere resolution upgrade (unlike Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U which felt like a downgrade of Tri in some areas since it was a 3DS port.)

Playing the demo makes me even more pissed that Capcom probably won't bring this to the West. Generations was an incomplete game (no G Rank) and I was willing to hash out extra money to get the complete version with my save date. Truly honestly, fuck Capcom. Might not get World, even though it looks great, just to spite them.

You are totally missing the point of this game. It's to make a shot ton of money for minimal costs with very little risk since it bears the monster hunter name. They could remake the whole game, but would that have a big enough effect on total sales to cover those costs. Or is it smarter to release a somewhat decent 3ds port on the Switch and work on the next MH for Switch after, while the former makes enough money to develop that game.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Oh I get that it works out fine for Capcom to do a low effort cash grab, I'm coming more from the point of view of a consumer who wants quality products. Capcom do far too much of this nowadays, pumping out poor quality software to make a quick buck.

Your opinion only holds water if top notch graphics are crucial. But this actually looks fine.

Another example... RE Revelations looks fine on consoles even though it was built for 3DS. More importantly, it was a really good game.
