Forums - Politics Discussion - Terrorist attack in Barcelona, 13 deaths

Why can't these scum just give up and do something else to feed their ego like be a businessman or something. Why not be a I'll show them by being successful at business rather than a I'll show them with killing people. What lead these people to do this stuff. Are they just evil for evil's sake or did they loose their confidence in humanity and instead of suiciding they decided to cause terror to people. Does it inflate their ego somehow or they do it to fill a stupid hole in their heart. Out of the thousands upon millions of possibilities in the world why did they choose this route? Was it because it's so easy to cause destruction than to build something productive. But they are scum and hopefully these scum stop existing and humanity gets rid of scum like these once and for all in my lifetime if not in the very very near future

When will these atrocities ever end?

ISIS has been losing a lot of power this year and last year. As a result of this, there are less organised attacks like in Paris and Brussels, but there are more lone wolves. They're ISIS supporters who are getting very desperate.

I suppose that the whole ISIS-related stuff will cool down after a while, and terrorist attacks will get less common. However, they will certainly not disappear.

What the fuck is with this ramming vehicles into people trend? Happened in Nice, happened in Berlin, recently happened in Virginia, and now this. Do we have any information on the attacker? I know there is a referendum taking place for Catalonia leaving Spain in a few months, and is it connected to that at all, or is it just another terrorist attack?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Fucking disgusting. These terrorist are a pest and every pest should be eradicated, no mercy. It's not so black and white, since the bigger powers (to my understanding) have some fault in inspiring people to radicalize after we go to their country or drones, etc. I don't know, but this is deplorable.

I hate how little you can do about this. You can't ban vehicles.

Literally anyone of the millions and millions of people behind a wheel can do this if they wanted, disgusts me that this is a problem.

All in all, it's always good to remember that you live on a planet of 7 billion. The news carefully cherrypicks all the absolute worst incidents they can find, on a daily basis - and among 7 billion, they will find SOMETHING. As a whole, though, we live in a wonderful, peaceful, safe era.

I wouldn't call this a wonderful era. Maybe it's because I was younger and more oblivious to stuff in general, but I feel like the world was a much safer and more peaceful place 10-15 years ago (well, at least the city where I live it definitely was). I'm happy with my own life and honestly 2017 has been probably the best year for me as it brought with it a good bunch of awesome games and movies (and is still bringing them), but outside of the artistic world it has been shit for sure.

Homicide rates for developed countries have been actually lower in the 2010s compared to one decade or two ago, though they are about even or somewhat higher than before the 60s or 70s. Before the 50s it gets harder to be sure, but it seems likely the developed countries of the west have been this peaceful since the mid 1700s, and only the 20th century saw a moderate increase in violence. Of course, the population on developed countries is also ageing, which should help to decrease the average.

The number of wars and armed conflicts have been also decreasing since the end of WW2, though it increased again in the 2010s. I'm not worried, though, as long as strong economic growth continues on the developing countries they should start to decrease again soon enough. Unless, of course, global warming and overpopulation prove to be a factor of significant social disruption and upheaval through parts of the globe on the upcoming decades.

AI controlled vehicles, I guess? That's probably where we're headed at some point anyway.

Edit: though that could lead to even worse things, too.

But there would be manual override of course. Otherwise if there is a malfunction or a hack of sorts you are screwed. The car did it would not even be a good defense if you survive but others don't. And the manual override needs to be implemented in such a fashion that you can just do it by taking the wheel and punching the brakes or accelerator a little and somehow protected from hacks.
