The problem I have with Microsoft, Phil Spencer, and how they're running Xbox is that their solution to criticism is essentially to just play an entirely different sport from Sony and Nintendo. Every answer to every issue is a non-solution. They gained PR for having a representative that is essentially the definition of "nice guy"(even though he delivers very little and just gets attention for stating the obvious - like you could switch this guy with your average logical youtuber and there'd be no difference), they made deals that were more consumer friendly for gamers(like the Xbox One's price, the efficiency of the Xbox One Slim, and the Scorpio's "true 4k"), they brought backwards compatibility as a feature to inflate their library, and they made every Xbox exclusive into a Windows exclusive as well to be "consumer friendly", which is going to be hilarious when Halo 6 comes out and it's only on Xbox. Not to mention Phil said they'd stop exclusive third party content; they didn't. And beyond that Phil was very quite about many Xbox games coming to PC until right before their release.
Not only do a lot of their PR moves end up hurting them, but they show that Microsoft would rather make updates to their policies rather than make their console worth something. It reminds me of the short time period where Sega started selling Dreamcasts at a reduced price in the mid 2000's, and just like Xbox One they had success, but it was essentially a dead system.
And frankly it's a fucking shame. Because, I love that a competitive market has backed Microsoft into a corner to be more consumer friendly. But it doesn't result in a better product for the most essential part : the games.
But at the same time, I have to except that if I was a single platform owner, I might be more excited. And if I liked every triple A game, I might be happy. But I'm not and I don't, and I think that's true for a lot of Xbox-ers nowadays.
