That is an interesting question, as SEGA has always had a strong presense as a publisher. However, they must have some kinda partnership with Deep Silver, considering DS published P5 in Europe at least.

That also seemed strange to me. Sega Europe doesn`t seem to be in trouble or anything, so I really don`t get why they can`t publish their own games anymore

Sega europe was a bad publisher. So, they made a contract with deep silver to handle their american and japanese stuff while they focus on their internal development projects (total war/footy manager).

As a Shenmue fan, this is funny to see someone else other than SEGA publish this. A good chunk of the Shenmue community doesn't deserve this game. Such a toxic fanbase. That said still glad I am getting it (I KS to get the PS4 physical copy) despite I'm fairly sure this game will be terrible. That's one of the reasons I think SEGA is staying away. yes, they own the IP but they don't trust it. This series burned them pretty good financially. Yu has not made anything of significance since Shenmue. If you follow the KS updates, the game is looking amateur at best. IF and I highly doubt it will but if 3 does well SEGA will consider Shenmue HD. I know I sound harsh but I do love the games. The first is my second favorite game of all time. It's just a series overhype by fans. The first game was novel for its time but it's in reality rather mediocre at best and terrible the rest of the time due

I dunno what's going on with the "community" but i'm happy it's happening. If they are expecting the game to be on the same level as the originals with 1/8th of the budget, they are crazy. Though let's be honest, the saturn version development ate up alot of that money.

Still, i think everyone has grown desilusioned with kickstarter projects as they have all disappointed bar very rare exceptions. I still expect Shemue3 to be one of the best ones due to the funding it got. But i don't expect it to blow my socks away. I don't need it to be a FREE game, and i hope they aren't trying to do that. More like a Yakuza game would be fine. I would be fine without QTE's... but we all know it's gonna happen. It's the game that birthed the term.

Shenmue Dojo and Shenmue 500K are insanely toxic. Shenmue community used to be great but over the years those communities grew so bitter and hateful they turned on one another. It's better to be a fan of the series as an individual. A good chunk of them at those ones are very disillusioned.

So, does that mean it'll get a physical retail release? I already Kickstarted a physical copy myself, but I wonder if others will be able to get one themselves.

Despite that, I expect the 3rd game to be terrible and flop, I won't be bitter like I was for Mighty No 9 because this time I know YS is actually trying.

Which is your first?

Also, isn't Sony funding some of the dev cost?
