Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Best story in a Nintendo developed game

Of the ones I've played, I'd rank their stories like this:

1. Skyward Sword - My personal favorite story of any Nintendo game. Charming until the end, great characters and it's the only Zelda game where I actually cared for Zelda herself. The story kept me engaged until the end.

2. Super Paper Mario - For a Mario game, this game's story is surprisingly deep, and also pretty dark at times. It develops itself very well throughout the game.

3. Majora's Mask - What's cool about this one is that it's not really about the main story, even though that's also great. It's about all the little sidequests and the self-contained stories of every NPC you interact with during the 3 days before the moon falls. Pretty melancholic at times too, but I consider that a plus personally.

4. EarthBound - It's a pretty standard story on the surface (The power of friendship and all that), but it's the weirdness about everything in it that sticks out to me. It's pretty heartfelt and I really wish that I could play Mother 3 officially since I hear that one is even better.

5. Pokémon Platinum. I know, you can't get more "stock" with a game's story than a Pokémon game. But even though I barely remember the story, I do remember really liking it, so it probably did something right =P

I can't answer because I have not played all of Nintendo's games.

My favorite would be Skyward Sword though, it had a great plot with memorable characters and amazing moments.

As much as the gameplay and linearness of the game hinders it a tiny bit for me (only tiny) I still absolutely love the SS story. After replaying a few more times it's still incredibly enjoyable to go through the story with the characters, we need more Groose!

Xenoblade Chronicles.

My vote as well. It consistently kept me engaged with a constant stream of reveals and surprises; every time I thought I had it all figured out, what I knew turned out to be only a small part of a larger picture.

Best part is, the twists never seemed random.

The story kept me engaged until the end (*cough* Unlike a certain recent Zelda game that barely has one *cough*).

Dude, we get it already, you're not a fan of Breath of the Wild. You don't need to repeat yourself in every single post.

Also, I don't get how anyone can say Breath of the Wild has practically no story unless you didn't find any of the memories and didn't do any of the Divine Beasts.

I consider Xenoblade Chronicles' history one of the best ever made. And the pacing was amazing.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, it's not even a question...although technically it's a collab between Square and Nintendo but I still count it
