Sad faces all around this week! The 3DS retakes the lead (again) due to the massive pricecut that was given this week. Also the Switch was hit really hard with stock issues again. However Monster Hunter XX comes out next week with some bundles. Sales should go up. Also Wii and DS are having normal weeks again.
Only 27 weeks until the comparsion ends!

After some thinking I decided to make a spin off/spiritual successor to my old DS vs 3DS 1st year. (Which I never finished because I was lazy.) Anyway I was curious how far behind Switch is behind everyone so I decided to make this thread. Also the global sales are coming in too slowly for my taste Anyway I will do 1st year launch alligned and same format as before.

Weekly Sales on the 24th week

Switch 3DS Wii DS
87,798 3,928 54,351 63,051

Switch beats 3DS by +83,870
Switch beats Wii by +33,447
Switch beats DS by +24,747

Lifetime Sales on the 24th week

Switch 3DS Wii DS
1,436,031 1,311,271 2,408,992 2,219,145

Switch beats 3DS by +124,760
Switch beats Wii by -972,961
Switch beats DS by -783,114

3DS is at one week before the Price drop. The DS and Wii are just doing their normal week load. Also keep note that the Wii and DS already had a holiday. So the lifetime data might be a little bias.

There is only 28 weeks until the comparsion ends!

I might make my own in the future.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

When does Wii hit a brick wall in Japan?

After 1 year on the market:
DS: 3,742,285
Wii: 3,872,489
3DS: 5,057,238

Switch definitely has the demand, but unfortunately not yet the supply.

I feel like the second year is when we will finally see the Switch's true performance. I still think stock will get up enough so it will be able to do atleast 4 million though.

Switch has almost no chance of outselling any of the either the DS or 3DS in their respective first year's in Japan until Nintendo can sort out it's supply issues ...

Nintendo only forecasts 10M units for this year and assuming that 2.5M units will be sold to Europe by the end of this year that leaves 7.5M units between the US, Japan and the rest of the world ...

The Switch would have to sell over 4.3M units in Japan to be able to beat those systems but it doesn't look like it'll happen since america has a bigger share of the Switch sales already and the killer app such as Super Mario Odyssey highly favours the american market ...

^This proves that faster sales do not equate to more sales overtime

I hope the Switch doesn't go this way, and instead gets to 80 mil

80m in Japan alone...

You are the opposite of the fat slob.

Lol, I obviously meant 80 mil worldwide.....xD (although I think 60-70 mil is still good, I just didn't want to get a bunch of "60 mil is only 3ds numbers!" comments)

Wii hit a brick wall in Japan by about year 3 and the fad fizzled out, so that one probably isn't the best comparison. If Switch only sells as well as the Wii in Japan that will be a fairly large disappointment. PSP outsold the Wii in Japan.

DS ... is a tough one because it turned into a phenomenon in Japan by capitalizing on touch screen games before the smartphone took over that completely. Don't think Switch has that level of appeal, it's a more traditional game system for its time.

3DS is a reasonable target for the Switch in Japan, but 3DS is still pretty tough. While maybe somewhat of a dissapointment in US/Europe relative to Nintendo's past handhelds, 3DS did very well in Japan.

Let's hope you won't get lazy this time.
