Depends, if it's a large ass file like GTA, Witcher 3 or Ark, then yeah I'll keep those backed up as I don't want to spend hours downloading them again. I do this with mods for Fallout, Skyrim, Witcher etc, that use Nexus mod manager. Some mods end up being removed or unsupported, so I definitely save those on another drive.

I don't really see Valve pulling an Activision and getting away with it. EA and Ubisoft I can see doing it, as it's their own games on their own store and they have their fingers in multiple markets.

That just reminded me that companies are free to take thier games off the steam store anytime they like. So if more companies come out with something like U Play, or Origen and take their games off Steam, that could kill it without Valve going bad.

There are games that aren't on Steam anymore that cannot be bought from the marketplace, yet those that owned the game can still download it again from within their library as the files are still held within the database.

I know you're trying to cover any angle to prove what you said beforehand, but it's honestly not all doom and gloom. With EA and Ubisoft?, yes, because those companeis show very little support long term for their games and they charge insanely high. The season pass for BF1 is still £40 despite the waining community, content that still isn't out and certainly isn't going to be around forever. THey want money first, not much else later.

The funny thing is, out of all those clients, Valve support the modding community as well as games that aren't sold on the store. When a game is done and dusted on origin, it's gone. EA and Ubisoft also do not support the modding scene either, especially their clients. Out of all those companies, Valve still does more for PC gaming than the others will ever do, because to the others they see no profit in supporting a modding community or keeping older games alive for long, especially when they want you to buy the next BF or Creed game around the corner.

I thought the Witcher 3 did a good job of it because of all the interesting sidequests and exploration.

You mean all the excesive sidequests, exploration and roaming that if streamlined could make you finish the game in 30h and only doing over 200h if you want to do sidequest like FF or other JRPGs where you can do "linear" playthrough and finish the game with levels won without sidequests? I just abhorr excessively lenght games and open world useless chores... I don't like to do chores even at work, much less at a game, fetching things up and down.

A lot of the "chores" in The Witcher 3 felt a lot more interesting than a simple chore. I really liked the sidequests that had to do with prior characters or lore. I played the first 20ish hours of the game though and I was disappointed that there wasn't more monster side quests like in Horizon Zero Dawn

I will say though that it could have been improven. I didn't finish the game, so maybe i'm being hypocritical : D

Also it was kind of hard to understand your comment, sorru

People talk big buy don't act. You think the 20 people who boycott this game will matter?

You'll be surprised what negativity can do to a mid tier AA game. I really think it'll sell not that great, firstly because of the move date, but the microtransactions is a total turn off for people. It's gone from Day 1 from me to a wait until it goes down to £20-25. Thats a bad sign when that happens :)

No I wouldn't. I've seen it before, it won't surprise me.

But I don't think it will change anything, at least not in this scenario. Besides, this is a triple A game.

I didn't know about being able to redownload and play games you bought even if they've been taken off the store. That sounds awesome.

Ah, I saw this episode, and I don't know much about Shadow of Mordor, but this sound kinda bad. I did find it pretty funny how it showed that orc character rubbing its hands, like they know what they're doing, haha.

People that had previously bought Deadpool were able to download it again despite it having been taken off the store page (though it was re-released in the end anwyway).

Really the other companies should be doing the same, though like I said previously, they don't see any profit to be made from it, but it shows a good stance to have and provides good customer support to keep your games stored, even if they are taken off the store page.

No problem, if you like the sidequests that is no problem, I don't mind sidequest, I mind having to go up and down all the time crossing the map and the fetch quests... also that without sidequests I would be too low leveled to progress the history.

Guess we'll see how well it will sell.

I wouldnt say it was a AAA game. Yes the definitions are difficult to put on particular games, but i dont think the scope, size or quality is what I would call a AAA, especially if its anything like the last.... not a bad game but felt like a very basic game underneath, its probably top end AA. Graphically it looks like a PS3 game that's been ported over to PS4/XBO. With slightly better textures etc.
