This is the future of AAA gaming, folks.

Games-as-a-service bullshit is profoundly insidious. One day it will entrench its roots so firmly that soon, even single-player games will require a constant connection to an online server.

We're letting them get away with it, and more and more studios are turning to this. Activision, EA, Valve, Rockstar, Ubisoft, Warner Bros....they're all moving in the same direction.

*Hugs massive collection of physical games tightly.*

Thankfully the game does not look good anyway.
The animation work in this game is dreadful.

I'm pretty much a 100% retro gamer nowadays. It's a casualty of spending decades in the industry where owning a video game was like owning a book.

I can still go way back to 1997 and play Goldeneye 007 with my friends, just like how I can read my old books from when I was a kid.

Will we be able to properly play the majority of AAA games 20 years from now when the servers shut off? Not a chance in hell. So I don't even bother.

You just have to keep the same update files on your PS4 harddrive. Everything works fine so long as you have them. I'm sure those same files will be floating around the internet decades from now to make old PS4 disks perfectly playable. Also, Nintendo games are good for all eternity.

How about the HDD fucking up? And can you even install files from external sources?

Since gen7 preserving games in their intended state has certainly become a lot more difficult, believe me.

Amen to that. That's why the preservation society that I'm part of (http://redump.org/ ) doesn't even bother with preserving games from the modern consoles. The reality is just far too messy, given that so many games-as-a-service titles are so heavily reliant on servers nowadays.

And all the "our license has expired, so fuck it " DLC and content, ugh.

Love redump though, I always verify my dumps with the ones on it (would love to contribute as well - I have Bulk Slash (Satakore ed.) for Saturn coming in - I noticed that that is not on redump ). I was really afraid of something so precious going away during the server trouble months.

Hey, I'm really glad you use our service. You may have verified some of the games that I've personally dumped myself, haha.

I think it's incredibly sad that future libraries 100 years from now will have the entire library of PS1 and PS2 games available for perusal once it all hits the public domain...but so many PS4/XBO/PC games will be either broken or lost to the sands of time. It's always depressed the hell out of me that so much of the early history of our art form will be lost....similar to 90% of the black-and-white movies from the 1890s-1920s that are now gone forever out of sheer neglect.

I feel the same way. Sadly, the problem is simply way too big and technically infeasible to tackle - even though for example PS360 may be saved for the most part, thanks to both systems being hacked wide open (I am in the market for a CFW PS3 right now... for preservation reasons).

Keep up the good work! What games/series have you most notably added? (or, what's your username?)
