Forums - Politics Discussion - Article: "America's Future Is Texas"

I don't have a lot to share here today, but was reading an article not long ago that I felt was worth sharing. It's about the modern history of my home state of Texas politics and how the politics of Texas have apparently become "the nation's bellwether", which I find to be a very depressing thought. I just thought I'd share it so that others can understand why I find living here as a leftist discouraging. It's just this sense of perpetual hopelessness that sets in, you know?

tl;dr

The only values ive been taught in Arizona are democratic, and even though some of the kids at my school liked Trump, id say everywhere ive been in Arizona is very liberal. So... you could move here

I understand that Arizona has consistently voted Republican in every election since 1952 with only one exception (1996) and was home to that (suspended) infamous 2010 law allowing the state government to deport all "illegal immigrants" unilaterally on the basis of race, among other things, so I'm going to say that maybe your perception of your state's politics is a little skewed by how far to the right your own views are.

I don't have any right views though ;_;

Well from the first few paragraphs of the article it sounds like a significant portion of Texas is left leaning despite the politics being dispraportionately(fuck spelling) right wing. Again I didnt read the whole thing but thats what I got out of it, maybe Arizona is like that too?

tl;dr either.

Texas is an amazing state. I've been there once and loved it, even though it was winter.

Besides, the article errs in that hispanics, whites, asians and blacks, all of them, are more conservative than average in Texas. Even California or Hawaii would have been Trump states if the four ethnic groups voted there as they usually vote in Texas.

Based on ongoing trends, I expect Texas to become the future California, in the sense it will be the most populous state and the center of economic innovation.

Well we do rank 43rd in the nation (out of 50 states) in terms of education quality, so actually yeah I'd say we are indeed kind of an anti-intellectual state. ;)

What part of AZ are you in? I also live in AZ it's very much conservative. Unless you live in Tucson. The one thing here though whether your on the left or right, most of us support the 2nd amendment.

I love my home state of Texas.
