90 minutes by train and bus.Worst part is, if I had a car, it would be 25 minutes XD

If the promotion comes with more working hours I'd think twice, since you're already losing private time. Then again, it might open up opportunities in the future but I'd go for the best balance in work/private.

I ride my bycicle to work in 30 minutes, and am considering a car for fall/winter. Saves me at least thirty minutes each day as well.

about 50min with walk, train, another train, bus and walk again.
for 10k more per year (even not considering the other benefits) i for sure would be willing to use 40minutes more time daily (20min each way). 10k more per year would be completely mind-blowing - so maybe realistic in 8-10 years^^ I live in Germany btw.

If you are not already millionaire or earning lots of money (so that 10k are not really worth it^^), take it.

Take the job, save the difference of the 10k, plus the 5 grand you get for the car and move.

The job offer is a no-brainer to me; go for it!

My commute depends on the traffic, it's usually around 40 minutes or so by car to work, takes me more than twice that time by bus and subway and on foot. During vacation weeks in the summer and driving home from work usually only takes 20-25 minutes and is a breeze (I get off work either around 23:00 in the evening or 9:30 in the morning, which means I don't get stuck in traffic that much).

30~35 minutes during the summer, about 40~50 with all the damn school buses -_-

What's your job? I am just wondering what kind work that requires you to work night shifts on a regular basis.

45 by car.

I work in youth psychiatry, teenage boys with neuropsychiatric disorders (high-functioning autism, ADHD, Tourettes, OCD, among others) and various behavioral problems and issues. Our shifts are usually either 14:30-23:00 or 09:00-09:30 the day after, we have sleeping hours between 01-06 though. We usually work every other weekend as well, I really enjoy working this way, I sometimes work 70-80 hours in only a few days and then I have gaps of 6-7 days with no shifts, and if I trade shifts with others, I can easily create 2 week windows or more quite often and go on little trips or just take time off and focus on other stuff!

I'm also starting school in early September, a 50% course on Social Pedagogue studies, in addition to the work, and I'm going to have my own intern from August 26th until January 1st. Needless to say; I literally have my work cut out for me!

I actually hold the record at my workplace for most hours in a single month, in September 2015, I worked 355 hours (sleeping hours included, of course). Those days are behind me though, work regulations and laws here are a lot more strict once you have a full time position so my hours are quite limited (only allowed 240 extra hours per year).

$5 an hour is a good deal...
How much do you earn currently though...?

45 mins here to work... for 15 miles... traffic is not the best. Used to work 60 miles but against the traffic that i can take it in 60 minutes. Then moved job closer to 22 miles... passing DTLA it took me 1 to 1 and a half hour. 2 hours if i wake up too late. Going home is a mess... usually 2 hours
