Forums - Sales Discussion - Just how much is PS4 beating Xbox One in sales this year?

I made a rough estimate of how much the XB1 has sold worldwide in the June NPD prediction thread. If we are to go with EA's figure, then the XB1 has sold about 1.6m for the first half of 2017. If we go with IHS's figure, then the XB1 has sold about 1.7m in the same timeframe. In comparison, the PS4 sold 7m from January 1 to June 11.

Since Sony has stated they beat X1 2:1 in the U.S. since beginning of 2017, I'd assume global sales are at least 3:1, probably even worse now for 2017. Weekly numbers on VGChartz seemed to reflect that..it's just a bit strange it doesn't really show up in the overall numbers...the overall ratio must long have passed 2:1 by now.

Japanese Numbers for 2017?!

Justt wait til xbox x arrives. It will outsell ps4 worldwide until ps5 releases

It's outselling it by a hell of a lot and rightly so. Software sells hardware and PS4 has by far a better line up all year round. And that's just facts.

Powerful systems are always last place in sales. Just look at PS1 vs N64, Xbox vs PS2, Wii vs PS3/360. Consoles make sales based on their libraries, and the PS4 has a library that blows Xbox out of the water.

Really? If those Xbox One numbers are true then that's bad. Like...are those worldwide numbers? Because according to VGC the Xbox One did very nearly 2.1 million units in the first half of last year. That's a huge drop.

To give you an idea of just how bad that is. The Xbox One S came out in the second half of last year, and the yearly total was just under 4 times what the total for the first 6 months was. Last year was also the most back loaded year the Xbox One has ever had. If this year is even a little more backloaded, and the yearly total is a flat 4 times the H1 total, they still only sell 6.8 million units. Down from 8.3 last year.

Yikes.

Actually, I don't know how much life the Xbox One has left if it's going to see a drop like that this year. Like...the 360 sold nearly 6.3 million units in 2013.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

It a great time to be a PS4 owner and watch the PS4 open up a huge sales lead over the Xbox One. The PS4 has a real shot at selling over 20 million consoles in 2017 with a huge boost on Black Friday and during the Xmas sales period. More consumers have bought a PS4 instead of an Xbox One this generation and that trend will continue.

Not by much.
You see XBO is only about 2-4 million in sales behind PS4 worldwide.
That's right, Xbox One has sold around 57-59m.

How do I know? A guy who called me a "pony" and then blocked me told me this.

 Gotta love those types.

Yeah even if PS4 stays flat for the second half it'll still sell over 20 million this year, but I see it selling more honestly. It should be going for 200 in the Holidays and should also get a nice boost in Europe when GT drops.

whats more is I think 2018 will be the peak year for PS4, with huge exclusives like God of War, Spider-Man, Days Gone and Detroit. Not to mention games like RDR2 which will sell a ton of systems to people who're not normally interested in a console along with Spider-Man. And Monster Hunter should give it a boost in Japan as well. I'm calling 21-22 million in 2017 and 23-24 million in 2018.

i think everyone who was saying exclusives don't matter should feast on a hearty meal of crows after how much of a boost PS4 got for the first half of this year due to all the exclusives like Horizon, Nioh, Nier, Tales, Kingdom Hearts, Crash, etc. I mean sure 2-3 exclusives may not do much but when they're dropping on a bi weekly basis even the so called niche ones do a lot.
