The Switch hardware itself is less powerful than PS4/Xbone so making games of that visual calibre is impossible in the first place. But they're clearly not stopping at Wii U levels of graphics either.

You get what I'm saying though right? Nintendo isn't going to make games that are graphically on par with PS4/XB1 until almost a decade from now. There's no need for them to do this because their games are all cartoony.

Well since the Switch should be at least a 6-7 year system, and is weaker than the PS4/Xbone, then in that sense, yeah, but I don't think that means all graphical progress has come to end in that time though; Switch has shown itself capable of delivering better visuals than Wii U, and as developers (Nintendo included) get more familiar with hardware we should still see some slight graphical progress being made.

Do you consider 6 to 7 years as "almost a decade"?

Switch's successor will be a semi-portable system. I'm no tech expert at all. Does having PS4/XB1 level graphics in portable form sound doable in six to seven years? Can any tech experts comment on this?

Depends on the release date and hardware features ...

PS4 level graphics sounds doable in undocked mode if system releases in 2022 ...

If the current performance of the X2/Parker is anything to go buy, it is definitely possible.  Such tech is outside practicality for now, but it won't be soon if Nvidia pursue's it.  The Switch's sucess will help with that as it provides a solid and predictable revenue stream from th Tegra line.  So yes, I could see PS4 level for the Switch 2.  Possibly higher in dock.  Maybe not PS4 Pro levels.  But we'll have to wait and see.

Yes it will be possible, probably even considerably sooner than that.

Nvidia is already developing the Tegra Xavier chip (basically the Tegra X3) and that chip will be finished this year. While initially if will be for self driving cars, it should be the basis for a future Nintendo Switch chipset and that chip will be XB1/PS4 tier if not better. In 3-4 years that chip will be cheap.
