Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Odyssey plant visuals

I'm quite fond of Mario Odyssey's visuals as a whole - the (faked) lighting looks great, the sand asn stone textures look great, the animation is fantastic (with the exception of the bar-swinging, which looks much smoother in 3Dworld...)

But why are the plants so go damn ugly? My list of favorite levels, visually, is pretty much just the inverse of the amount of green inside them, with Mexico at the top, and the forest level at the bottom.

It's not like Nintendo can't make nice grass, Zelda's looks great.

Indy titles for the Switch have better leaf textures/models (Snakepass): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEK2c6opsDs

Some places it feels a bit off, but I like the vegetation in the Sand and Cascade Kingdom, as well as in the Luncheon Kingdom too (that's if you can call it that, that is...). I think the main problem is that every kingdom uses almost a completly different art style, some are better than others.

Thanks for the pics, as I couldn't remember how they looked myself!

Agreed. The color palette looks oversaturated and the textures look off.

I'm just asking myself how this stuff made the cut:

The rest of the level is fine, but I seriously can't imagine that someone could honestly like those green textures.

Oh, my goodness.  What the hell is that?

They did the best they could with the available resources.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If you're talking about the Switch, there have been MUCH better plant textures on the system. Breath of the wild, for example.

It really shouldn't be that hard, from a programming perspective.

As others have said, there are much better plant textures within the game itself, if you look at different areas.
